Just The Puppy Dog
Sorry I haven't updated as regularly as I would have liked but finding a quiet moment on the bus during the school holidays is nigh on impossible. Added to this is my excessive workload and I simply haven't found a moment to be able to update.
Work is causing huge issues at the moment as we are chronically overstretched. The Commercial Manager has left to join a rival company meaning his role has been assimilated into mine while we find a replacement. The problem is that I'm already managing eight projects, doing commercial development and overhauling the internal structure of the company, as well as implementing new PR and marketing strategies and frankly it's taking its toll. It's also very interesting to note how few people have the time to help when you really need it. My familiar tension is back in my chest, with the panging pains becoming more frequent. I think this is brought on by stress and although I only have two days left until a week break for EF, getting through those days is going to be tricky. It's also looking likely that I'll have to work before my flight on Sunday morning coupled with a potential business trip to Romania in early September. Last night Wolfie commented how tired I looked after a 12-hour nightmare of a day and not even beer could relax me. I'm not sleeping, permanently on edge, we've done nothing intimate in weeks and frankly fucking pissed off with everything.
One thing adding to my frustration is the loft extension plans, which are moving incredibly slowly. The original drawings had to be sent back to the structural engineers for amendments and we have only just got the revised plans back. No date has been set for the commencement of the work but I would like to get the exterior work done at least ahead of the weather turning in early October.
EF is just around the corner and I am massively looking forward to it. I do fear that the con is going to be too big but I do know quite a few going and I've been learning German again to polish up my skills. I'm particularly looking forward to sightseeing around Berlin, a city I've never visited before, as well as the abundant and high quality beer that will be on offer.
The weight situation is improving, albeit slowly and not aided by beer. Last Thursday, like tonight will be, we ended up in Shuffledog after a work curry to mark the start of the new football season. On the Thursday before kick off, we tend to have a meeting to discuss the new requirements of the business, before ending affairs in the Punjabi Sizzler curry house where the company pays for some food (and last Thursday two pints of Cobra). The food here is very good and I had a chicken Punjabi, a moderately spiced curry with a strong hint of lime. We also got a tray of starters such as kebabs and chicken wings. I stayed here for about two hours before everyone split, after which I headed to Shuffledog to meet up with Wolfie, who I had arranged to meet later in the evening. They had six new beers on, hence our visit, and the plan was to try these before heading home. However, halfway into the evening I bumped into one of the ladies from my Russian class two years ago, who was drinking with her Australian boyfriend on the next table. She collared me as I was returning from the bar and we soon started talking, with her eventually asking whether they could join us. This was the day that England had bowled the Aussies out for 60 on the first day of the fourth Ashes Test (on their way to a fantastic Ashes series win) so the banter was strong and Wolfie had a great time meeting them too. It's odd as I hardly ever spoke to her in Russian class beyond learning the language (as was the case with everyone in the lesson if I was honest) and yet over beer we soon became good friends. Wolfie was having a great time and as he started late, he wanted to stay out, meaning the drink kept flowing and we were the last ones in the bar. Having missed the last bus, we decided to head out and on making our way back to the centre, we spotted Brotherhood, which Jo admitted she hadn't been to since it was changed from a Mission. A drink was what was required then so we went in, before ending up in North, when they met up with some Australians with whom they could converse and I bumped into three work colleagues who had found their way to the same bar we had done. A brief chat and we soon had to head off, as it was 1:30am on a work night and I was quite drunk. Sadly, due to the stress, Wolfie and I had yet another argument about nothing on the way home which marred an enjoyable evening but it was overall a great and totally unexpected evening out.
