the sleeping quarters upstairs are Japanese in style, with a bamboo wicker mat and pillows
Oh, no futon, just a mat? Ook. Mind, I suppose my arrangement back at the last apartment wasn't so very different - as I knew I wasn't going to be spending all that much time there (versus being able to put down roots), plus the lack of money, I simply used a duvet to sleep on, and another covering me.
a mosquito net which makes you feel like a beleaguered bride should you get caught up in it
But you'd make such a charming blushing bride. ^_^
Never trust a scarecrow
As indeed proven by the two-parter Doctor Who tale, The Family of Blood/Human Nature.
a prop plane though - I haven't flown on one of those since 1994 - I always feel that this way feels more like flying as you feel every bump and bit of turbulence
Hee! Indeed yes. Similar timeframe for me, too, going into Arcata - which, being right on the coast, even if Pacific, means it gets plenty of interesting winds, especially in what passes for winter thereabouts. Not sure whether or not to count it on my list of favorite rollercoasters. =:)
lanked with columns of yellow light, with LEDs circling the supporting structures. These are the modern equivalent of candles
A very Asian adoption of technology in religion. ^_^
So neutral then.
So, not always on the itinerary for visiting Chinese dignitaries?
I love the temples here, they are all brightly coloured, with a vibrant red typically being a dominant theme
Oh, yes.. that definitely reminds me of a similarly styled temple a friend took me to in KL. Quite wonderful. I only wish I'd had a good camera back then! (Still, I did take plenty of video, which I later digitised - I really ought to sit down with iMovie someday and distill something watchable out of it all)

Sounds like you're struggling along nobly. =:)
