The Spectre Of Christmas

I know I wrote something similar around this time last year but I have just seen my first Santa plush toy this morning. It's August 4.

I saw the first Christmas tat on sale down here at the beginning of July :/

Oh God - it's going to be all year round Christmas shopping buy buy BUY soon. Scary.

O_o....what..... but...... 4 month.......not even.... past Hallowen...... GAH.... *head explodes*

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It always happens here. The toy shops bookmark August 22 as the day to get the Christmas stock on the shelves. Some are doing it even earlier nowadays.

I haven't seen any yet. Mind I may have to be buying early for Xmas this year becuse I will be away in early December.

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I always buy my stuff on December 22/23 - I just don't think about it until then.

[identity profile] fen-ra.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 10:17 am (UTC)(link)
It seems to get more ridiculous every year. :P

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn't help when you are not a big fan of the festival in the first place.

[identity profile] metamorphosys.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
That is quite scary. I swear it gets earlier every year in the UK. Nothing like that ever appears in Thailand. I hope all is good with you. Take care.

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
That may be because Thailand is a Buddhist country. Is there a Christmas presence there?

We had Christmas jingles for a local delivery firm in Fareham on June 20th, its wrong. Three months prior is acceptable in my mind, but right now..No, back in your box you evil little advert men!

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Three months is not acceptable at all. Start of December maybe, but certainly not three months.

There was a news story the other day that said retailers are trying to get people into the Xmas mood early so that they'll BUY BUY BUY! I think it will have the opposite effect. Like most people I know, I'm repulsed!

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I think a lot of people get sick of the overkill element, certainly. And what with the current economic situation, it wouldn't surprise me if retailers started wheeling out the same tat considerably earlier. Thankfully, not having a TV, I can avoid most of it.

[identity profile] tjcoyote.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I know that if I go to Costco*, they'll have Christmas stuff out sometime this month, as they always do. :-P

And I'm with Sabot, they earlier they start, the later I want to shop. Last year some radio station was playing Christmas music in November. Ugh.

* In case you don't have them Over There - Costco is a wholesale club, you pay $45 a year to join, then you can buy things in bulk with at most 10%-15% markup. With their American Express cashback credit card deal, I usually come out ahead. ;o)

My birthday is 20 November and I get really frustrated when I see Christmas decorations up before then. Just a personal thing I guess.

I always buy my Christmas things on 22 or 23 December and then I go in with a set plan, and come out an hour later with all my purchases. I'm not a big fan of shopping really.

[identity profile] tjcoyote.livejournal.com 2009-08-11 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
I always say that if I knew what to buy folks, I'd do all my shopping in September, stuff it away in a closet and forget about it 'till it's time. Instead, well... I end up shopping in December. *shrugs* I think my family is getting used to my opinion of Christmas... I like to keep it simple and low-key. :-P

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2009-08-11 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I tend to buy stuff like cheeses so I probably can't do that. I am also not very organised and tend to think of things barely a few days ahead, so Dec 22/23 works for me. I'll try to be more organised this year but I know I will just put it off.

Be thankful, in London we have The Christmas Shop, ‘Where it is Christmas everyday’.

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Does that mean it's always shut then?

[identity profile] silent-o.livejournal.com 2009-08-04 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Not sure how big that store is, but Michigan just may have it beaten:

Scary! =0_o=

I don't think I ever want to go there :(

[identity profile] tr-wolf.livejournal.com 2009-08-05 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
The hotel where we're getting married now has a Christmas tree up on a table, to advertise their Christmas 2009 meals/breaks etc.

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh God. I guess it's that time of the year. I just don't plan things weeks in advance. Hell, I don't know what I am doing this weekend yet. Grr.

Hope you're wedding went well hun :)

Perhaps some day Christmas shall not be on the 25th of December anymore!

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2009-08-10 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps. To be honest, I'd rather just do away with the whole thing but I guess if people are happy, then that's the main thing.
