Charity Fundraising - The Plan

As I wrote a few months ago, I am thinking of resurrecting the fursuit furry fundraising group that I was a part of in 2007. The plan is to create a network of willing furs in the UK who would like to fursuit in public and raise money for local charities in the process.

What I need is a list of people who would be interested in joining me - both suiters and handlers. The plan is for you each to adopt one charity in your local area and then liaise with them to organise events at which you can suit. You may also be able to piggy-back on some events they have already planned.

I will create a website in due course, on which all fundraising dates and places will be announced. Then, other members of the community could offer their support to your charity and vice versa. Although I will attempt to co-ordinate things centrally - it is really up to you regarding how much you suit and what you do in your local area.

Commitment is essential as you may need to undergo a CRB check (which I beleive costs about £50) and you may need to fund your own transport to venues. I will help all I can.

If anyone is interested then let me know and we'll see if we can get this started again.

There was a thread in the UKfur forum on long ago about it. Sadly I have to say it quickly died a death after then normal intrest and the thread is now working its way down the list to the doldrums. Personaly I still think the entire idea is a non starter.

I wouldn't say its a non starter myself, numbers of people won't matter your proof that it can work good. :) To make it a charity even if was just 3-4 of us would good enough. I'd love to join myself but can't afford the CRB and transport costs atm, but will def in future.

I don't know what the CRB check costs are - will have to look into that. Transport - the transport will be negligible if you arrange things in your home town :)

CRB checks are not necessary hun - just phoned the CRB people and there is no legal requirement.

Something think would really be worth having through as a charity worker. Wonder if there's such an organisation for charity workers who can sign up with.

I agree - I would rather have them than not but the current legal situation is that they are not necessary. I would argue that the best thing to do is probably to ask your sponsored charity to submit the paperwork for the CRB check on your behalf. CRB cheques for voluntary organisations are free as well, I have found out.

I think if we can get a group of four or five of us, we can do it. Judging by the interest on this thread - the people who have responded are all reliable and committed people and so I think the idea could work. I hope it does :)

Thanks for agreeing to be involved hun. What I need you to do is send me photos of you in suit for use on the website, and a little introduction to your character. If you could also think about which local charity you would like to support then let me know :)

If you are a member of a registered charity or similarly constituted voluntary body you can get standard CRB checks done for around £7 a time.

The "Enhanced CRB" is non-free, however.

Thanks for providing me with the information hun - I will look into it :)

As always, I'm always up for this. Limited at the minute by problems with money, but once I get things working in my favour again - absolutely.

At the moment my suit is over in America being modified, but when I get it back I'll get back to you, until then I suppose I could act as a handler if someone needs one :P

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2009-09-07 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be great hun - much appreciated. If you would like to suit at some point, if you could send some pics of your character and a small profile, it would be appreciated :)
