Animal Crossing - New Leaf

So I've finally succumbed to the Animal Crossing craze and bought myself a Nintendo 3DS XL (Animal Crossing Special Edition), the first games console I have ever bought. Granted, the 3DS has appealed to me for some time, largely because of its small size and the range of games available for it, but the Animal Crossing thing clinched it for me.

I started playing the game last night, becoming the mayor of Puptown. It's a charming little adventure, cute and genteel, with good graphics and a delightful storyline which has some sweet and amusing characterisation. Plus they are friendly talking animals who think you (sadly a person) are awesome in your role as mayor, what's more to like? Indeed, it's the sort of game I love - I've never been a fan of anything associated with war and the prevalence of these games has been a huge turn off in terms of me getting into gaming. I know there are other games but this genre seems to get a lot of coverage, plus I don't really have time for world building games unfortunately.

This is nice through but I fear my addictive personality will take over and I will spend countless hours on the game - last night I spent two and there's still loads more to do. Plus I'm feeling the usual craving of wanting to play again, even though I have work and a load of other things I want to do tonight. This is another reason why I haven't gamed seriously in my adult life, games tend to take up a lot of my free time when I get immersed into them.

Anyway, this may be a renaissance in gaming for me - I haven't done it properly since 1996 - or I could get bored with it after a while and devote my meager time to a range of other projects I would like to do. In the meantime though, I'm just going to have fun on a cute game consisting of talking animals and friendship. It's like a microcosm of the fandom really, without all the drama. And surely fun is what it's all about.

I have never played not in fact like you ever owned a hand held game console. But thanks to your post I may have to go out and buy me one this Friday. I also have an addictive personality, which means of course thanks to you nothing will get done around the house ever again...

I have played on it for over three hours now, it just eats your time away. It is a charming little game though and it does make me smile, so I guess there is no harm in that.

hehehe, to be honest, lately I've been increasingly bored with most games. Maybe it's time to have a look at something different ^^
