First Day Back
Sep. 12th, 2007 09:00 pmAnyfur remember the dread and forboding that was associated with your first day back at school after the summer vacation? I had the same feelings today when I went back to work. I was on such a high after EF that the realities of life hit me hard this morning. What didn't help was that Tesco have increased the price of a small carton of milk from 35p to 40p. Grrr!
Either way despite the drudgery of work I am still on a massive high after Eurofurence and I hope this continues. Sat in work today checking over work that has previously been checked (I've been away for two weeks but the pointlessness of my job has thankfully remained the same) the memories of last week often brought a smile to my face.
Today in many ways was a red letter day for me as I have decided I am going to quit this job and move on to pastures new. The reasons are fourfold:
1) I can't see there being enough work to get us through next month let alone next year
2) There is now absolutely no chance of any promotion opportunities whatsoever (there is a recruitment process going on but as I am currently a contract worker - that contract can only be made permanent - I cannot move up a grade)
3) The job is so dull and lacking in any sort of a challenge that I am quite literally bored out of my mind and
4) I have learnt all the transferable skills that I am going to learn
I have decided to focus my energies on website design and maintence work as my friend has offered me a job at his fledgling company. There are numerous benefits to this, namely more money, fewer hours and a far greater creative freedom than what I am used to now. I have always been an aspiring writer so the journalistic nature of some of the websites I will be running does appeal to me. I will also learn a lot more IT skills that I can use to develop other projects, particularly those within the Fandom. That's the plan anyway - I am keeping my paws crossed it'll all work out.
