Hell Is For Heroes At The Cockpit

A thousand times rolled into one
The ache still burns with everyone
I learnt to find your love again

Slow Song - Hell Is For Heroes
Went down to Leeds Cockpit for the Hell Is For Heroes gig last night and it was immense. It was the first professional gig I'd been to since I saw Muse last November and boy have I missed it - I'd forgotten the buzz you get off seeing live music. I'd been wanting to see the band for about four years so it was amazing to finally be able to go and see them particularly in such a fantastically intimate venue as the Cockpit. I didn't realise it was so small.
Wolfie and I managed to steal our way right to the front and when the first song kicked off there was an amazing atmosphere that continued throughout the gig. Moshing, pogoing, singing, crowd surfing, it was all going down and I just couldn't keep an inane grin off my face.
There was however a fat drunken guy who did his best to spoil proceedings by singing Leeds United Football songs throughout. A lot of people got pissed off with him and some started hitting him. Once he thought I hit him so he playfully slapped me back. Five minutes later he ended up snogging me. It was scary.
The other highlight was managing to grab hold of the lead singer's arm as I was bouncing to "To Die For". It's the first time I have ever touched a member of a professional band, and indeed someone I admire, so it was an amazing high for me (sorry to get all fanboy with you). He and the guitarist also acknowledged me many times which made my night. I couldn't believe how near the band were to the crowd - literally centimetres.
The only downside is that they didn't play Slow Song, my favourite track. However as I had to head off before the end of the gig to catch my train I may have missed it. It was a slight annoyance but I caught most of the gig and I'd rather that than not have seen them at all.
Apart from that I spent most of the gig stood next to Shiro but we didn't recognise each other. I knew he was there and it wasn't through text message on the way home that I realised I had been right next to him. I tapped him on the shoulder a few times in the gig but he thought I was taking the piss! Ho hum.
If you are at the Leeds meet tomorrow and Sunday then I'll see you down there (I'm heading there in about five minutes in all honesty). If not have a great weekend :-)
