Now, you know I am not usually a bandwagon jumper and am often suspicious of things which appear to be overly popular. However, I have to say that How To Train Your Dragon is one of the best films I have seen in a long time. Granted, it started slowly but it build up to a fantastically climatic end.

And what was the best thing about the film? Yes, the plot was fantastic (as befits plots of little known yet cult authors generally I find), the characterisation was strong and the visual effects stunning (particularly in 3D, in which this film really must be seen) but the best thing about the movie was the musical score. It really set the tone of the film, it drove it along when it needed to and the way it was interspersed with the footage - particularly during the dragon riding scene and the fight scene at the end - just sucked you in and had you captivated. Well, it had me capitavated anyway. It was some of the best cinematography and musical accompaniment I have seen in a long time. Very exciting indeed.

I thought it was an amazing adventure film and a load of fun to boot. Granted, I was a little scared of the snake like tails and the dragon with two heads attached to snakey things but upon the development of empathy with the dragons (a rare skill and why this movie was such a winner in my opinion), even my fear of snakes subsided. The genuine feeling of willing the characters on is a sign of a good film and this opus had that in abundance. And the subtlties in the animation were also top drawer too. Most excellent in all departments.

And the dragons were kinda cute too, particularly Toothless :P
