Personally the indifference started with the expenses scandal, prior to that the tories could have steamrollered their way to government, but when it hit it just sowed mistrust with all of the major parties not just one. That and nobody seemed to be convinced that any party was really in a position to deal with the problems that we faced. If there was any consensus about anything it was the seeming notion that Gordon Brown had his chance and blew it over the past two years.
Also all the party’s where heavy on buzzwords and slogans too which again didn't seem to go down well, I remember Nick Cleggs PPBC where all he did was practically say the word "change" repeatedly. Like the debates it was a certain Americanization of UK politics, that didn't really do anything as we weren’t buying it.
Hung parliament has been on the cards for months, not that anyone has wanted it (I know I didn't) but the failings of the Labour party, mistrust in the system and seeming inability of the other party’s to do any better just forced the situation that we now in.
