Two evenings, two very different drinking sessions. But boy is my belly not thanking me today.

Friday was our work's night out but due to an issue with Sweden, as well as the Oslo bombings, I didn't get down to the pub until after nine. Around 15 of my colleagues were there from many different nationalities and fun was had, both in the Wetherspoons and the rather disappointing Reform club afterwards. The 2am McDonald's with Skawinski - who stayed at mine the night - was a mistake.

On Saturday, Shortfuse invited us to the Unity event in Hyde Park. On our way there, the Dry Dock pub - putting the bar in barge - enticed us in and this set the tone for the day. We ate burnt nachos before finding out that Mr Fuse had been called to Sheffield. We endeavoured to go down to Unity anyway but it was one of those open air things better appreciated when stoned. We walked around amongst Jamaicans and hippies before heading back into Leeds to try more bars.

A new pub had opened three weeks ago in a former bookshop. The furniture was an interesting medley of assortments and there was a pummel horse and tree in the middle of the bar. Happy Hour was from five and the staff kindly let us wait for ten minutes before we got our drinks so we could take advantage of the offer. Two steins of Budwar for £7 - not bad.

It was in this bar that I discovered the shocking news about the death of Amy Winehouse. Wolfie didn't believe me when I told him. Despite her problems, 27 is a tragic age to die. Sadly the inevitable disgusting comments were ubiquitous online, which put a dampener on my mood. All rather sad.

We invited some people out soon after but many were busy. However Stray Jim and V joined us in the Nation of Shopkeepers - a bar I have wanted to visit for sometime. They have Brew Puppy's Alice Porter (6.5%) on tap and it's quite a bohemian if slightly scruffy place. I loved it.

A trip to Nando's followed where we also met Shiro. Then on to Foley's to try Brew Puppy's fantastically named Bitch Please. This is an 11.5% beer stored in whiskey casks for eight months. Consequently it has a real smokey taste. An excellent limited addition collaborative brew with the 3 Pirates brewery. I smuggled a bottle home for safe keeping, making me look like an angry thug withmy drunkenness and Teesside accent. Still no one complained but a 6am start was not what I needed today. It has been a tough day.
