Under slate grey skies, yesterday I had my first barbecue of the year. We went round to
Mr and Mrs Wolfie's who wanted to test their impressive new gas barbecue. Corn on the cob, steak, snausages and kebabs in various flavours (hot gritty Chinese, BBQ, honey glaze) made for a fine meal. Salad, crusty bread and beer - it was pretty perfect. I don't have enough barbecues but we don't have an outside patio area at our house so it's tough.

The current trend in the UK appears to be the renovation of pubs into a trendy style. The Town Street Tavern in Leeds is one such example as it's now tiled in turquoise like a Victorian urinal. The beer is traditional and varied whilst the staff are mental. They have a giant tiger head bowl and Michael Jackson's little-known book on cocktails. They also serve wasabi peanuts and I was allowed to get a shot glass of white chocolate buttons from the cafe counter as I noticed I had to add 25p to get them. Assembly to coffee but I prefer my buttons neat. Good night in the end with Patter and Wolfie - even though we has to dodge the vomit in the final pub we went to. Or it could have been coleslaw, not too sure.
