Dave Gorman's Power Point Presentation
Oct. 16th, 2011 03:56 pmWolfie and I went to see Dave Gorman's fantastic new show at Bradford's St George's theatre last night. He was certainly on form and absolutely hilarious - go and see him if you can. This is the third time I had seen DG and he never disappoints. I love the narrative style of his comedy and the seamless way he puts his show together. His show was as engaging as ever and a work of genius. It wasn't challenge based like some of his earlier work but perhaps funnier because of it. Either way, it was a brilliant evening.
The warm-up guy was Jay Foreman, a comedian who has been on the circuit quite a while. While not hilarious, he was quite entertaining for thirty minutes and some of his songs were black to the point of perverse. So precisely my type of humour.
The only blight of the night was my fellow theatre goers. There were cynics to my left, a man to our right who eyeballed us whenever we wanted to leave our seats (which was only at the interval when we wanted some delicious but overpriced ice cream) and to the front sat a man twice the size of James Corden who couldn't sit the fuck still. The seats in the theatre are quite low and the rows aren't high so I saw a lot of the back of his head. I was swaying more often than a stoner at a rock festival.
After the show we went to one of the most Northern pubs I have ever visited as the queue at the car park was ridiculous. The bar was a faded pastiche of the 1950's, run by a woman who probably could still remember them. It was karaoke night which seemed to entail a 60 year old Yorkshireman who could only sing one note murdering classic songs. He tried playing the sax on 'Baker Street' but it was hideously out of tune. We left when a 50 something Iggy Pop lookalike started pogoing around the pub singing Black Sabbath songs. Disturbing. Still, at least these people are trying I suppose. I find listening to karaoke akin to torture so I guess my view is slanted.
