Don't Have Nightmares...
Jan. 27th, 2012 05:56 pmCrimewatch is far scarier than any horror film, probably because it's real. I caught last night's episode in the gym and was petrified to walk home alone in the dark. Thankfully modern technology has made those ghastly e-fits a thing of the past, they scared the bejeebus out of me as a kid, but it is still quite a horrifying show.
Crimewatch is an odd programme as, although it's existence is for the public good, it also has the slight feel of an entertainment show. Primetime tends to suggest this and this makes me wonder whether people watch it for entertainment. I certainly find it perversely fascinating but I am not sure why. And as I am thinking, the rewards offered are a bit perverse too - are there really people out there so cynical that they would only bring forth information on a ghastly crime for financial gain?
One thing I learnt last night is that watching Crimewatch with subtitles is to be avoided. These things are never fully accurate and are often littered with spelling mistakes. Yesterday they described a "terrific murder" when I assume they meant either "terrifying" or "horrific". Hopefully none of those affected by it were watching with the sound down.
