Richard Herring - Talking Cock
Mar. 27th, 2013 09:15 amA couple of Sundays ago (10th), Taneli and I went to see Richard Herring's new show Talking Cock. In fact it's a reprise of his 2002 show but as we had never seen it before, it was completely fresh to us. Taneli went with a work colleague while I was meant to go with Wolfie. Unfortunately, he had to attend a wedding in Dortmund that weekend so I had to sit on my own. Sad pup.
The show took place in the City Varieties off the Headrow, a neat little venue hidden down an alleyway. I had never been there before and I was surprised as to its size. It's a great theatre and one I hope to attend more regularly in future.
I got a beer with which to watch the show, despite my thimble bladder, but with no one sat next to me, there were no leakage issues (although I did accidentally pour beer down the seat in front of me after being knocked by another patron).
The show itself, as befits the title, was all about the penis. Billed as the Mangina Monologues, it was based on a survey on Herring's own website with questions concerning the penis. There are two surveys - one for men and one for women - abs the results of the now sizeable sample were analysed in jocular form.
So there were things like penis length and the psychological issues associated with it, circumcision and the strangest place people have put their penises in. Threesomes were also mentioned and sexuality was also explored. What surprised me was that I seem to be pretty extreme sexually when compared with the general population, which is odd as it's not something I consider myself to be. Furthermore, my perspective changed on my own sexual hang-ups during the show as it is clear that the fears I have are also shared by others.
Consequently, it was a fascinating evening, absolutely hilarious yet full of interesting information. And at the end we all had to declare our love for our own penises, which is surely the best way to ever end a show ^^
