Over the weekend, Wolfie and I travelled back north to meet my parents. It was the first time that Wolfie had visited them since 2007 and the first time he had been on Teesside since I left to move to Pudsey in early 2010. My mother has just moved house and I get the impression she felt a little guilty about not seeing Wolfie more - in the seven-and-a-half years we have been going out, she has only seen him for a total of four times.

After work on Saturday, we headed to my Dad's, where he cooked us a meal and we chatted over beer. I bought him some BrewDog but we felt it rude not to accept his Carlsberg Export. My Dad is normally quite a guarded person but after a few beers - a rarity for him in all honesty - he started talking a fair bit and it was a good night. My father and Wolfie have a stronger relationship as my Dad often comes visit me in Leeds. It was a bit weird being in my Dad's house with Wolfie but it was fine. We had to sleep in separate beds though - only because there were no spare doubles and we didn't fancy spending the whole night cramped into a single bed, despite my father suggesting the option.

On Sunday, we drove to my mother's new house about an hour away in Barnard Castle. It's a beautiful barn conversion with solid oak roof joists. I saw the exterior back in August when they were in the process of buying it but this was the first time I had seen the interior. It is a little isolated but only two miles from the town so it's not too bad if you are desperate. There are nice views of the rolling countryside all around, enhanced by the beautiful autumn day that we had. The interior is very much country living and my mother and stepdad seem very pleased with it. They cooked us a three course meal - vegetable soup, beef and Mary Berry chocolate cake - with a cheeseboard to follow. Wolfie became increasingly relaxed as time went on, and in the end had a good few hours I think. He even helped with some hard drive and wireless work which needed doing.

I think my parents want to see me and Wolfie more often, particularly my mother. I'm not sure what's changed things - I guess the house move has made her reflect on life and she now realises that I'm with Wolfie for the long haul, emphasised by our own house purchase last year. Either way, it would be very good to see them again so I'll have to start making plans. They're only 90 minutes away and I do think I have a better relationship with Wolfie's parents than he does mine. It would be good to improve on that.
