On Wednesday, Wolfie and I went to BrewDog for another beer tasting session - A Taste of Denmark. Unsurprisingly, many of the five beers we samples were from the excellent Mikkeller although we did have By Udder Means by the sadly defunct To Ol too. The attendance at these events is normally quite low and so it proved again, with the two other girls slated to come not turning up, probably because they only paid £10 for proceedings instead of the £20 cost price. Still this meant more beer for us, along with the presenter, who had got the night off bar work so he could drink with us. Aside from the cackling laughter from a harrenden in the background, it was another successful night, even though it was just Wolfie and I. I had invited some furs to join but it was too soon after Confuzzled apparently so money was tight. The next tasting session will be in June - A Taste of the USA - and that should be very interesting.

Before going here, we finally got to try Pieminister, the new pie restaurant on Duncan Street. This wasn't through a lack of trying, it's always been rammed every time we have gone, and it was touch and go whether we could get a table on Wednesday. With just the two of us, they managed to squeeze us in, and the food was truly divine. I had a moodog pie - steak cooked with BrewDog's 5am Saint - while Wolfie has a cheese and beef effort. With sweet potato fries and minted mushy peas, the food came to less than a tenner each although the drinks were a little expensive. Still the range they had was exquisite and judging by our lack of drunkenness on the night, a good pre-drink meal. We'll definitely be going back.

One of the reasons why we weren't too drunk was that the sample beers we're all between 5 and 7% rather than the higher offerings we usually have. Added to this was our friend the barman - who we know quite well now - was sharing with us as we spent a good two hours chatting with him about local beer, finding out interesting new venues to purchase it. We also didn't go out much afterwards, heading to the Tetley for one before catching an early bus. The Tetley is interesting as its a bar inside the front entrance of the old Tetley Brewery, which has been converted into a small museum. The bar feels like it's in a corridor to be honest and there's not a huge range of beer here - while the chill nuts were far too crunchy - but it's a nice building in which to drink, oozing with history. Their crowning glory is more their food, which looks divine, so we will be definitely be checking it out for that at a later date.

After the Tetley, we were tempted to go to another bar but the Adelphi looked dead and the gay bars looked unappealing, as they so often do. So we headed home, largely sober but after a wonderful night. One of the reasons for this was because we were due down in Doncaster on Thursday to go to our regular fet night, which we had missed for the last four months due to either illness (February) or comedy shows (March and April). I do like the friendly vibe of the evening and it was great catching up with some old friends, as well as negotiating a deal for a specialist piece of kit I'm thinking of purchasing. We also got a few more toys for the playroom but generally it was a social event, catching up with friends on the scene and celebrating the event's third birthday with delicious apple crumble and a range of nibbles, all for the princely sum of £3. Load of people were asking about the dog suit, which I wore back in January for their furry theme, and it was great that Lupe had such an impact. I may where him again at another juncture, although the socialising opportunities are somewhat limited. Aside from this, it was just great talking to all my friends again, resolving to see them more outside the event in future. We can't do June's event but we are also hoping to regularly visit from July onwards as we had such a good time, we ended up staying past midnight, meaning we didn't get home until past 1am. I also enjoyed regailing everyone about our trip to Bishop Burton to meet its people, while we got a story of a delightful little puppy who everyone fussed over and played with before he did a big dump on their office floor. Unfortunately we didn't win the raffle entitling us to £25 off any fetish goods (one number out, grr) but it was a great night nonetheless, even if the changing space in the toilets leaves little to be desired.

Tonight we are going to an anime night at Adia's where I imagine more Bottom Biting Bugs and Dog Days will be in order, along with mice clambering all over me again. I think the plan is to try a local Chinese as it's cheap. Then Saturday I had intended to go to Sheffield but Wolfie is working and not many seem to be going as it's post Confuzzled. I could really do with saving money for the attic extension - we are hoping to make a decision on this on Monday - so I think I may just keep it quiet and catch up with work. Probably best for the finances and the waistline.
