It's been a pretty good weekend all told, not withstanding my deteriorating mental state. We had a good mix of social and productive efforts on the house, with Wolfie's parents coming around earlier today to help with the DIY. We have decided that, as we have the materials at hand anyway, we might as well give the house a fresh coat of paint so this afternoon we painted the hallway. I also helped scrape off some plaster so we could get the light fittings into their sockets in one of the attic cupboards while we finally sorted out our bottle recycling system so we no longer have to accumulate bottles on the sideboard before taking them away to be recycled.

I have been feeling a little rough today on account of going out last night, when we met up with our friend Brett, whom we hadn't seen for about four months. We haven't been avoiding him, we just have been trying to get our alcohol consumption down so we haven't been drinking as much of late, plus finding a mutually convenient time has proven difficult. Typically, we ended up going on a pub crawl around Leeds, with BrewDog and Shuffledog both in our sights. In Brewdog I was saddened to hear that one of our barman friends is moving to Leicester in the next fortnight, meaning we will see far less of him. Our friendly Scouse lady gave us the wrong drinks in BrewDog so we ended up with two beers rather than one in here, lengthening our stay somewhat, but it was an easy evening so it was all good.

After this, I tried peanut butter and jelly for the first time, with Shuffledog offering this delicacy on toast for £1, utilising one of those automatic conveyer belt toasters you only really see in posh restaurants or cheap pizza parlours. I thought £1 was minimal risk and the combination really worked, with the frutiness of the jam complementing the smooth peanut butter taste remarkably well. We also tried a range of drinks we hadn't had before, although remarkably we had already gone through most of their range, meaning we only had four of 33 to try. After this, we ended up going to the North Taproom, a place we had been meaning to try for the last six months since it opened but somewhere we had not yet experienced. One of the main reasons for this is that it's only open on Fridays and Saturdays and, while being practically opposite from my workplace, I rarely go out drinking during a weekend. However, as this was a little out of the city centre, it wasn't too busy and soon we were sampling their full range of beer, sat amongst the brewing vessels which helped create them. We imbibed a rare fruit beer called Mandarin Sputnik - brewed on Wednesday, served on Friday with the 20L batch gone by close on Saturday. We also got chatting to the barman, someone who has seen us out and about in the bars of Leeds quite regularly, and who has urged us to come back to the North Taproom more regularly. I must admit I probably will, it does have a warehouse/garage feel but it is quite homely and the beer is very fresh, it was definitely a winner for us. We stayed until closing after which the plan was to head to The New Brunswick to meet up with Brett's fiancee Jo, who was out and about with friends and was intending to meet us later. However, she had had a fair bit to drink and so Brett ended up heading home, so we called it a night too. This was probably for the best as it meant we could catch the last bus and we had had a fair bit to drink, but it was a great evening and we even got invited to their wedding later in the year, which will take place in the Magic Rock Brewery Taproom. It promises to be quite a day.

The only other thing of note this weekend is that this evening we headed over to Birstell to meet up with Taneli and watch the 3D version of Zootropolis, the third time we have seen the film now. I must admit that I still love the story and the 3D version was probably better than the 2D one, with the fur in particular being enhanced in this format. This made the film more immersive for me, while the reclining seats in the cinema added a level of comfort that I wasn't quite expecting with the Showcase. I don't think I'll see it agai now - three times is probably enough - although if I am bored later in the month I do envisige myself seeing it for a fourth time. We'll see I guess. I have become a bit of a fanboy over this movie, having bought a load of merchandise from the movie too, and it's rare that I get so immersed in the hype, particularly regarding something furry. But even Wolfie really loves the movie and every time I see it, I take something new away from it, while I love the central theme and message that it portrays. Definitely a winner and the only movie I have ever seen more than once in the cinema. Beforehand, we grabbed a doughnut from Krispie Kreme although the service was so slow, we almost missed the movie. Afterwards, we decided to go to Chiquito for some Mexican food, which was an alright experience although the portion sizes were a little small in my view. I had only been to this chain once before, about six years ago with my mother, and thought the food was a little microwaved and flat. It was better this time, and the menu had a wide range of things from which to choose, so I may go back more often.
