Sunday was the first of a busy week of events as we headed into Leeds to meet up with Stray and Arc, with the fox having bought tickets to see No Such Thing As A Fish at Leeds Town Hall. We hadn't seen either Stray nor Arc for a long time due to extenuating personal circumstances, so it was good to catch up with them again. We had had quite a quiet weekend, so it was good to head into the city for a little bit of social, with us arriving with about two hours to spare.

We had arranged to meet at Slocken, a new craft beer bar near the Corn Exchange run by the people who operate Wappentake. That is a Yorkshire-themed bar and this was more focused on a wider geography, with some excellent pizzas to boot. We are trying to save money right now, with the need to overpay our mortgage ahead of coming off our current fixed term deal quite high, but we did manage to snaffle a slice of Stray's pizza and delicious it was too. The fox was the first one to arrive, with us appearing about fifteen minutes later and Arc fifteen minutes after that. This gave us an hour of chilling ahead of the gig, which was great time spent. Indeed I was a little sad that we had to go to the show in the end, as I was having such a good time.

We got to Leeds Town Hall with plenty of time, where Arc pointed out to us that the ornate marble effect was merely just an effect, which highlighted how tacky it actually was. I had only ever seen the place in the dark and largely at beer festivals so I hadn't really noticed. There was a strong desire from the panda to keep drinking, so we grabbed some trashy beers, noticing that we only got small bottles so we grabbed two each. This made for a rather uncomfortable second half from a urinary perspective and I did have to sneak out halfway through, but fortunately we were right at the back in the far corner so we weren't disturbing anyone. Indeed we had our own row.

The show itself was great - with the first half a preamble intro and the second half the podcast itself, which was being recorded and will go out in a couple of weeks time. The preamble was quite fun, a nice warm introduction when all four members of the panel discussed different aspects from the podcast's four years. Indeed, it was its birthday the previous Thursday, adding a greater gravitas to this show. The podcast itself was in the usual format, with each of the four presenters presenting a different fact, some of which being about Leeds, which was quite interesting. I was a little tipsy by this point though, having had just over three pints of beer, so it did pass me by somewhat. We were asked to tweet or text our facts ahead of the show, with the best one winning a prize. Alas, mine didn't win but I did like the one our sales guy keeps telling us at work about the expiry dates of crisps always being a Saturday. Still, the official twitter feed for No Such Thing As A Fish did like my 'time to watch No Such Thing As A Fish - do dee do dee do dee do' tweet so that was something.

After the show, Arc needed to head back whereas Wolfie and Stray were feeling peckish so we headed to McDonald's. It was here that I tasted my first ever Big Mac - at least certainly as an adult - and I was quite taken aback by how nice it was. It had a far greater taste of pickle than I was used to, and I really should try it again. Wolfie got the Bigger Mac, which I accidentally dropped on the floor as I was removing it from the brown bag. Wolfie thought I had deliberately done this and we had a small argument, with him insisting I rectify the situation. I did do this, rather awkwardly, but it did dampen the evening a little, even if we did make up on the bus home.

So in the end it was a good conclusion to a rather plain weekend. We got all the Leeds Meet stuff organised on Friday, I went to the gym and kept practicing guitar while on Saturday evening, after an excellent dine in for two for £10 from Marks and Spencer (with free Bulgarian wine), we settled down to watch a 1928 Soviet propaganda movie about the Russian Revolution. This was interesting in a myriad of different ways, not least the cinematography let alone the messages it conveyed, although a little bit of knowledge of Russian events in 1917 wouldn't have gone amiss. Still, it was fascinating and amazing that it was this that Wolfie and I settled upon, what with our like of different genres of movies. It was amazing really.
