Everybody Pet The Pup, Splat!
Sep. 5th, 2018 11:22 pmYesterday was the first time that I explicitly told the directors where I work that Wolfie and I are looking to relocate from the UK. I was very apprehensive going into the meeting but I don't think it came as a surprise to them and they did say they would try and accommodate my wish if they could. In light of the recent acquisition, the dynamics have changed somewhat, but they will raise it with the parent company and see what they can do. I don't particularly want to leave the place where I currently work, particularly as exciting things are starting to happen, but the Brexit door is beginning to close and I don't think I can give up on my dream of moving to Europe either. It's a very difficult situation and one that's causing me significant mental turmoil, but with the clock ticking down until 29 March, I need to start seriously exploring possibilities now. I do hope we can come to an arrangement but I know it's a big ask and that it may not be possible. I guess more will be revealed as the month progresses, but if I can get the best of all worlds, that truly would be fantastic.
Aside from this, we have done two social events in the last two days. The first was yesterday's monthly coffee meet but due to a project at work overrunning, I didn't get chance to get to Laynes, which made me quite vexed. Fortunately, Wolfie was able to coordinate proceedings there and I got to meet everyone at George's shortly after 7pm, which was the time for when I had booked a table. This was the second formal 'Come Dine With Chee' event and we had eleven people in attendance, which was great to see. I am glad our monthly supper clubs are proving to be popular. I believe everyone enjoyed their meals - I certainly loved my fish hot dog and blue stilton fries - while I particularly enjoyed making Adia laugh with my smutty humour. Indeed I quite lowered the tone but it was good to relax after a rather hellish day at work. However, yesterday was very much a day of bad fortune as my shoelace broke in the restaurant while we returned home to having no toilet paper in the bathroom, with us being relegated to the use of kitchen roll. Wolfie, who is on call this week, then had to spend five hours up to 2am on a routine job, from which he still hasn't yet recovered.
I started work late today, partly on account of yesterday's nightmare and partly because I had a meeting with a member of staff at 6:30pm. This meant going to the gym was out of the question and so we were able to attend the Brew By Numbers Meet The Brewer and Tap Takeover event at the little Leeds Brewdog. We arrived shortly after 8pm and it was great to see the place heaving, with a number of head brewers from local breweries taking advantage of the event. There were three BBNo events on draft, all of which we hadn't yet sampled. Indeed, BBNo are one of those breweries we have often overlooked due to their ubiquity, as there always seems to be something rarer or more interesting on the taps. Consequently, it was good to try some of their beers and we had a pleasureable hour sampling and chatting to the staff before being good and heading home. I do like tap takeovers and Leeds is certainly a great city for it, I just wish we could get out to more. However, with Leeds International Beer Festival this weekend, there is the biggest opportunity ever coming up and we are both very much looking forward to it.
