Asbestos Train
Oct. 2nd, 2018 10:02 pmI'm having really bad social anxeity these days, although it doesn't hit me before or during social gatherings, but afterwards. It started off after I had been drinking but has seeped into most of my life, making me feel increasingly insecure. The travails around Brexit, along with my increasing fear that I am going to end up being stranded here, is the main catalyst and I am desperate for all of this to end. Alas, I think it will be many years before it does unless I can get out of the country before the end of March next year. I'm already working towards this, but of course time is tight and everything is uncertain. And if I stay, the punitive potential immigration system may mean my job will significantly suffer, if it even exists at all. Either way, I just hope it all works out.
Tonight was our regular monthly coffee meet and I managed to get down there quite early this time, having missed the whole event last month. It was great seeing a number of people there, specifically Avon, Adia, Cosmo, Oracle, Seadragom and Windsor but I did feel quite uncomfortable for large swathes of it, as if I didn't really fit in, partly because there was a lot of talk of either trains or asbestos. This was actually a shared feeling and I wonder whether I cannot cope with furs unless I have had something alcoholic to drink. Or perhaps I am just so unhappy these days that I am struggling to be my usual self. After all, Wolfie did say to me two weeks ago that 'Brexit is killing you' and that has had a very sobering effect, not least because it's true.
Anyway, things picked up a little bit at Come Dine With Chee, where we headed over to Sukhothai. I had had little interest in going here during the week on social networks but in the end, eight of us attended, including Adia who was pretty much trying Thai food for the first time. I had forgotten just how good it can be, particularly the unctuous coconut rice, while my massaman curry was definitely a winner. We hadn't been out for Thai for so long, and it was good to sample the cuisine again, even if it did leave me feeling a little bit bloaty afterwards. Still, it was a nice end to the evening and afterwards we headed back home, returning at around 9pm as Wolfie, as usual, had driven into the city straight from work. It does mean we don't drink and thus moderate ourselves, although I have returned feeling a little lethargic. I'm sure I'll get over that though.
