Hibernian Eggs
Jan. 27th, 2019 05:31 pmIt has been another very quiet weekend after a rather uneventful week, with the focus still firmly on saving money. A No Deal Brexit is starting to weigh heavy on the mind and I have been doing all I can to save in both GBP and EUR should the worst happen. I am also hoping to chat with work this coming week about potential contingency plans, although the directors have already called an important one-to-one meeting with me on Tuesday to discuss the future. It'll be interesting to see what comes of it. Either way, with only two months to go until Brexit and little hope in sight, I am feeling considerable trepidation about the future and it's starting to hit me mentally quite significantly. I was in a foul mood this morning and was very angry in the supermarket - not aided by the fact that as we were getting some haggis, some prick turned to his partner and said "only freaks by haggis" - and this resulted in some tension between Wolfie and I, which we managed to resolve. Anyway, I just want all this to stop now - either Brexit to be canned completely or a bolthole out of this country - as the uncertainty is really starting to bite.
Yesterday, I met up with Taneli and Arcais to do some more geocaching, opting to walk the Leeds-Liverpool Canal from Rodley to Apperley Bridge. The sky was thick with clouds, but aside from one downpour towards the end of our walk, fortunately it did not rain too much and the temperature was reasonably warm for the time of year. This is in comparison to today, with bitter gale force winds, which would have made any walk unpleasant. It was quite a nice few hours spent with friends by the canal, as we picked up thirteen caches in a variety of locations. Most of them were very straightforward finds, but the multi-cache was a real nice touch as we had to solve a puzzle on a bridge before walking to a rather clever concealment about 500m away. Arc spent a lot of time taking pictures of the swans and geese on the canal, while it was great just catching up in more relaxed surroundings than the average meet.
After our walk, we ended up in the Costa Coffee at Greengates, where I managed to snag myself a black forest hot chocolate as they still had some of the syrup left over from the Christmas promotion. It was a pleasant warming way to end an afternoon of adventure, and it was a shame that Arcais had to leave us shortly afterwards to go to her family Burns' Night celebration. We hopped on the 35 to Thorpe Edge and then the 641 to Bradford centre, with Arc getting off at Eccles Hill and us staying on the bus until we had reached the city. The plan had been to go around to Taneli's, get food in and watch Paw Patrol, but with us being in the centre of Bradford, we had far more options to hand. This saw us end up in Five Guys, which wasn't as expensive as I had originally thought on account of me getting the smallest fries, which were still too much for me to finish. The burger itself was as good as it always is from them and it was great for some one-on-one time with one of my closest friends.
After this, we hopped on the bus back to Taneli's, where I stayed until the last bus of my own about three hours later. In this time, we watched a number of episodes of Paw Patrol, including the underwhelming Mission Paw ones where the princess's dog Sweetie is always the baddie. We got to see the episode where the delightful Everest became part of the crew as well as the one with the new Paw Patrol mobile, highlighting that there is a basic story arc to these series. I had only seen much of Series One, so it was great to be filled in with some of the major subsequent developments in the series although I think I probably preferred the older episodes, particularly as the voices seemed to be a little better. In addition to the British show, we also watched some of the original Canadian ones, where the voices are somewhat different. I think I prefer the British version. Anyway, it was great fun watching our favourite pups and taking the piss, in a loving way, out of the show and as Taneli is doing Dryanuary, we didn't drink either. Indeed, I only shared three cans of beer with Wolfie when I returned home at around 11pm last night, which is a very sober weekend for me. Hopefully, this will continue into next week too.
