A Wolf With A Wankel
Jan. 15th, 2023 04:19 pmVery little has happened this week, largely because work has taken priority. Indeed, due to working late on both Wednesday and Thursday, I reached a stage of burnout when the weekend couldn't come quickly enough. The last two days have been quite relaxing, but I have had really bad mental mood swings, probably as a result of being overworked. I do feel I am not particularly appreciated in my job and am frustrated that I have to sacrifice so many other things because of it, but I guess that's the nature of capitalism. If I could spend all my time focusing on my writing then I would and although I have pushed a few projects forward this week, I haven't done anywhere near as much as I would have liked due to the time limitations.
Wolfie had some job interviews last week, which seem to have gone well, while he has some more this coming week too. Hopefully this will see him secure a role as the issues last month have really knocked him and he is reticient to buy even small things on himself due to money fears. For this reason, we have largely stayed in, although we did go out last night to the Upper Burger Grill near Zoologischer Garten. I was aware that Wolfie hadn't left Spandau in about a month and I was scratching around the house bored. We initially were just going to eat out in Spandau but having watched Food Tours earlier in the day, Wolfie craved burgers and there is nowhere really good in our town. This saw us go out in the pouring rain, but the burger was ultimately worth it, even if they did forget our order and we had to wait an hour for it (we did get compensated with two free beers though while the devastated look on the waitress's face was one that will live with me for a while). The cheese-coated truffle fries were amazing, as was the burger, so it is a place we will definitely be returning to. The English translations on their wall though were laughably bad - 'fries on skin' being one such example, along with the use of the word 'delightfully' in an odd way - but my German is worse so I can't complain. After the burger, I fancied going for a drink, but with a lack of decent craft beer bars in the area, we decided to go to an Irish Bar in the basement of a shopping mall. Alas, we were denied entry by the bouncer, who claimed they were full (they weren't), but as it was smokey, we wouldn't have gone in anyway. Still, the mall itself was interesting as it had a clock which functioned on the passage of green water, some funky coloured chandelliers and a reflective pool that looked very early Nineties.
We have watched a few more Naked Gun movies this week, but due to my work commitments, we haven't had as much time as we would have liked. Also, neither of us are sleeping particularly well, which is making doing things difficult, particularly stuff like bondage. I really want to get into it more but I've had a can't be arsed attitude for a while. Still, things seem to be setting up quite nicely for Scotiacon in this regard, even if I do have the fear of not being good enough a lot of the time. This also has had a knock-on effect on VR, a medium with which I am really struggling. Wolfie is on all the time and I fear I am losing him to it somewhat, while outside of one-to-one conversations I do not feel comfortable at all. Part of the problem, I guess, is my inability to read body language on the site, but I just find it a little clunky and impersonal. Along with the general bombardment of social media, I am finding it all overwhelming and probably should take a few steps back for my own sanity. The problem is, with such little going on socially in Berlin itself, what else is there to do?
I published another story on SoFurry last week, but it didn't get the traction I would have liked. The topics weren't among the most popular, while getting it live at the start of Further Confusion may not have been the wisest move, but it's amazing just how much this tanked when the previous two were so successful. It has hit my confidence a little, even though studying the metrics, everyone else has suffered the same issues this weekend. Still, something to finetune and hone, while Televassi and I are pooling our experiences to see if we can come up with the best time to publish things. I went slightly later on Thursday evening and it proved to backfire, so clearly it needs to be earlier in the day.
On Thursday, we were up early to say goodbye to Vrek. He didn't have a funeral, instead opting for a simple cremation, but we were all online at 8:30am GMT to toast him off. It was all rather reflective and a heavy way to start the day, but being together with friends did help.
