It has been a few days with Emily and Spooky, interspersed with quite a bit of work, which has been surprising. This was certainly the case on Tuesday, which was pretty much a full-time day, although the other two days so far this week have been much lighter. There has still been little progress on the job front, but I do have an interview later on Thursday and I am still hopeful of developments somewhere else. We'll see. Wolfie believes I should relax and take time off, but I am not as confident as he in terms of me getting a job and I would really like something sorted before the end of next month. I know I do have the funds to relax, but they will quickly diminish as long as we remain in Germany and while I am still questioning the value of being here, until we know what is happening with Wolfie's probation, we don't really have a decision to make. Wolfie says I am being too frugal with money, but I am still doing all the things I intended, while I have to make some contingencies unless the job search goes on longer than I hope. I can see his point, and a holiday would be nice, but I would like to tie something up first just to give myself more piece of mind.

I left the house around 4pm on Monday headed for Nollendorfplatz as Emily wanted to see some of the fetish shops. I was slightly delayed due to a delay in them confirming their own arrival plans, but I managed to get down there around half an hour late, when I found them waiting for me down one of the side streets. I then showed them around most of the stores - Butcherei, Mister B, Rob, Sling King (which was unfortunately closed due to staff holiday) and Gear, outside which we saw Zuckris and a couple of his Polish friends whom I believe we met at the Braugier craft beer evening last December. They were posing for photos in pup hoods and we decided to join them as they perused a few more shops, specifically Boxer and Brunos, the latter of which I didn't even know existed. It's very much a camp gay but not too fetishy store but it was great to see at least.

With a few people wanting to go bouldering and others wanting food, we split at around 6:30pm. We decided to head to Blackstyle, where we aimed to meet Wolfie, who had been working from home all day. We did get there in time, but unfortunately, the weather became torrential and a lightning strike on a tree downed all of the power lines coming out of Gesundbrunnen. While the man in Blackstyle was lamenting God's punishment for CSD, jokingly, Wolfie was unable to meet us. After Emily had tried on a female catsuit and decided it didn't fit in key places, we realised pretty quickly that getting to Wolfie would be difficult. The whole Ring was out of action, as was the M1 tram, while engineering works around Alexanderplatz meant that the U2 was throttled too.

In the end, we decided to go to Zoologischer Garten as it was the was the easiest place for Wolfie to get to, while it was nearish to all of our residences. It was 9pm by the time we managed to traverse where, and we managed to meet Wolfie on the platform. By this time though any food would do, so we ended up in Five Guys. Emily was surprised by the free peanuts on offer while I was surprised by their exorbitant prices, but again the food was rather tasty and with the need to get something quick, it was the best option. Sadly, Burgermeister was too busy. After this, we ended up going to the Union Jack pub, which was a short distancea way. We sat outside, initially in the fog of another patron's cigar smoke, but he soon left. We ended up having a few beers - and Spooky one whisky that was on special offer - before calling it a night at midnight.

On Wednesday, we arranged to go and see the Barbie movie at the Cubix cinema at Alexanderplatz. This was scheduled for 5pm, but the heavens opened as soon as I left the flat, meaning I was somewhat delayed. Fortunately, when I managed to meet Emily and Spooky, they were drinking beers near the entrance to Alexanderplatz U-Bahn station, unpeterbed by the time. They wanted to miss the ads and so I figured we had about 15 minutes outside. What we didn't realise was Screen 9 was all the way at the top of the cinema, so when we arrived, the film was literally just starting. It was fantastic, with a load of satirical movie references, while the issues surrounding the patriarchy and women's rights were very pertinent. It's not a surprise that the far-right 'anti-woke' brigade hate the movie. It was also very funny in places, while it made me cry on four occasions too, largely because I never got a childhood like this. The Ken character, and the neglect felt by him, was also relatable while the bright pink colours also appealed. Finally, the frequent nod to Mattel and the quite bawdy humour was also great, meaning this was definitely one of the better films I have watched. I can understand why critics have loved it so much.

Wolfie was working in the office today and had no interest in seeing the film, but he did meet us afterwards for dinner. We tried to go to the ramen place near Senefeldplatz where Fiasco had taken us last October but oddly, once we arrived there, we realised it was closed on Wednesdays, which seems like an odd day to choose. Spooky then took us  to Cocolo Ramen, which was in one of the residential neighbourhoods which I hadn't yet explored. It was very near main roads I have been down, which is always one of the delights of Berlin as there is always a new place to visit. This long and narrow restaurant opened out onto a courtyard where there was an art gallery and cinema, although how to enter them remains a mystery. Either way, it was rather bohemian and after a short wait to get a table, we were soon tucking into gyoza and ramen. Emily hadn't really used chopsticks before, but she soon got the hang of it, while I enjoyed experimenting by adding a range of spices into my soup. It was a good meal indeed.

After this, we swung by Brewdog, noticing there was a big party outside another bar advocating bone marrow donation for leukemia treatment. As we approached Brewdog, it looked like it was closed, but it was just the signs that were off. Sadly, out of all the beers on tap, there was only one that was new to us. This reflects their recent focus on highlighting their own beers rather than guest ones. This is understandable due to the cost of living crisis, but it does make for a boring experience as this was the first time I have been to a Brewdog bar and there has only been one new beer I have yet to try. It wasn't as if my last Brewdog trip was recent - it must have been back in the UK in May - and tonight were the first new beers I have checked into Untappd in four weeks. I simply don't drink as much beer these days. Anyway, the evening itself was good and the staff friendly, lamenting always swiping my EFP card the wrong way, while we ended the night in The Castle, where the lady who had recognised us as furries at the Fureigners meet last month was there again. We also chatted to the barman before sitting down and rounding out the evening with our friends. Emily is staying in Berlin until Sunday but we are off to Magdeburg tomorrow so can no longer spend time with her. We will see her at both EF and FinFur Animus in September though.
