Wolf In The Gulf
Dec. 28th, 2023 02:01 amIt has been a very good Christmas, pretty much the relaxing few days that I needed. I really wanted to have four straight days off, but work commitments meant I had to work Saturday as well. However, I could do this at my own pace, so it wasn't too bad. I did want to get everything done though so I could enjoy the Festive Period with as little stress as possible. This meant I was working until 11pm, knowing that something is going to have to change next year as I cannot combine a full-time job, my company, my writing projects and the need to learn German with the limited time I have. Having just had three days off, what I realised was just how tired I am, with me struggling to do anything constructive until the third day. This is having a knock-on effect on the things I really care about, specifically the writing, so I think a few hard choices will need to be made in January.
Christmas itself was very good. I spent a lot of time with Wolfie, which was needed after my excessive workload in December, while we ate some good food and drank some good drinks too. We enjoyed the Hello Fresh pistachio-infused pork for Christmas dinner, while we also ordered two sets of creme brulee which annoyingly went out of date on December 23. They were still good over Christmas though. Wolfie also liked his present - a plush wolf with a wolf backpack - but alas the tags he got me still haven't arrived. Wolfie and I also got the opportunity to do a little bondage on Boxing Day. We were initially going to go to Qualgeist, but I felt apprehensive when I realised there would be quite a few people there I knew. I didn't really have the spoons for socialising, while I wanted to ease my way back into BDSM a little before playing with others. This is what we did on Tuesday and it felt so good, while chilling and having a €6 kebab afterwards was a really great way to round off the weekend. Hopefully we can get back to Qualgeist for the furry meet-up on the first Saturday of January.
I had work today, which was a little pointless although we still got stuff done. This was despite us eating our entire cheeseboard today, which has resulted in me feeling quite sluggish as it contained four whole blocks of cheese (one of which the Camembert, I had to eat most of as we think soft cheese may be triggering Wolfie's foot issues). This was the only day I needed to work this week as I am going to Furvester tomorrow. The usual pre-con apprehension has set in, while I am also a little concerned about the UK house after the storms there last week. We have tried to contact Wolfie's friend Adam to check on the house but he hasn't responded, and I am starting to get concerned. I am hoping it's fine, as my father tried to reassure me in one of my lengthy family conversations I had on Christmas Day, but I do worry about everything. The paranoia in particular is becoming tiring - I have to have a 'good thought' before being able to leave any situation, meaning I am always going back and touching stuff multiple times. This has eased over the last few days. Christmas was a nice departure from this as I have refused to follow the news while focusing on myself. I managed to get some reading done and even wrote another chapter of Slave to the Wager on Boxing Day evening. I also had a few anthology ideas that I am hoping to write in the new year.
My fears are never far behind though, particularly the wisdom of living in Germany at such expense, but I'm still pushing on with things. I generally like it here and the social scene is picking up, we just have to capitalise on the momentum I guess. The broken letterbox is also a concern - the Hausmeister said he was going to fix it before the Holidays but he clearly hasn't. Hopefully nothing important comes in between now and the new year. In the meantime, we are all largely packed and looking forward to the con. It'll certainly be better than being in Berlin, which is always a war zone at New Year, although it being in the middle of an industrial estate with very poor public transport access is a slight concern. The program looks somewhat sparse too, but we know a fair few people there so let's see what happens. We've bought cheap vodka if we need to pass the time.
