The main disappointment from the match was that I didn't back the 1-1 scoreline, despite professing to everyone that that was what I thought the scoreline would be. Much annoyance, I could have made a bit of cash.

I thought England played the best I have seen for a while - there was a determination and passion about the side which has been lacking in recent encounters. However, what Emile Heskey is doing on the pitch at all is beyond me. Steven Gerrard led by example and the goal was a beautiful move that was executed well.

The USA offered little really and were gifted their goal by the hapless Robert Green. Still, all in all, a positive result I think, which will still ensure England finish top of the group. I don't see the USA beating Algeria and Slovenia as comprehensively as England so I am reasonably happy with our first game. And, after all, England have a tradition of starting their campaigns at major tournaments with poor results.

Whereas I thought Heskey was one of the best players on the pitch. He still can't score for toffee.. or anyone. But he kept the ball alive and passed it around really well. And made the pass to Gerard from which we scored.

I thought he was quite dreadful but we'll see how he develops as the tournament progresses. I have never really rated him but obviously Capello does. He was involved, I'll give him that.

At least we agree that Heskey is a rubbish player, the man always seems to screw the pooch whenever he gets close to the goal. I wouldn't mind if he was a new player, but this is something like his third world cup now, and he hasn't got any better since.

I felt some relief when Peter Crouch replaced him on pitch in the last 10mins.

I wasn't going to accept anything less than a win from England tonight, the worst we should of done is 1-0, so a 1-1 draw isn't good enough. Particularly as you said, the USA wasn't very good either.

We're toast if we keep this up against a side that can play football.

OK, having watched it... must say that i was more impressed by the US. Also, not all that impressed by Fabio's selection of two unfit players either.

Still... England did get some good attacks together.

He's the best rated England player.
Second hit.

Equal second best after Gerard.

If he's the second best rated, then it's not exactly filling me with confidence, particularly after last night.

What?

I'm being honest.

England are shit. They are not a team, just a bunch of egotistical brain-drains. Because this country produces people like that, we will never having a winning team. Everyone from the players to the managers are empty egomaniacs. I expected nothing more than to see them make a fucking joke of themselves.

USA acted like a team and their goal keeper is like a ninja. Ours is like a pea brained stoner who's been out on the piss all day.

I heard nothing but bad things about both Algeria and Slovenia during their match, so I'm betting that England and USA will both end up beating both of them.

I also must admit that last night's match was the first time I've ever watched a full football game, (well, missed the first 5 mins due to trying to find an online stream that wasn't stuttery) and I really enjoyed it. I was worried due to the low scoring nature of the game, I'd get bored, but thankfully that wasn't the case. (as opposed to baseball, where I always fall asleep a few innings in without fail. XD)

I didn't think the US offered all that much to be honest. I can't think of a significant attack they had.

I thought the performance last night was good - Heskey wasn't amongst the good performers though.

USA are the 15th best nation in football at the moment, England are 9th. Traditionally, we are poor starters in major tournaments and we were abject in our warm-up friendlies. Looking at the performance last night, I am more encouraged than not.

Sweeping generalisations there. I wouldn't say England produces 'egotistical brain-drains' and Fabio Capello is not an egomaniac. A few of the England players are, I accept that, but certainly not all.

The USA offered very little and our keeper did pull off one good save in the second half.

I am glad you enjoyed the game hun - some football games can be really exciting and others can be really dull. It is more fast paced than baseball though. USA should have more than enough to beat Algeria and Slovenia, I feel.

Watching Germany yiff Australia on Univision (Spanish-language TV) made me spoo three times.

The first time I didn't spoo because the guy was offside and the ref didn't call it.

The other three goals...

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Did the spoo land in the box or did it go narrowly wide? :P

Somewhere like that, they change on a month-by-month basis. I haven't written a World Cup article for a few weeks so it may have changed since I last looked.
