You may remember that less than two weeks ago I discussed the rising price of ham as the cost had increased from 55p to 58p. Well now it has leapt to 62p. This means I have resorted to the classic British technique of stockpiling - I have bought all I need for the next month along with other goods and supplies. What surprises me is that we aren't seeing demonstrations like the fuel protests nine or ten years ago, despite the cost of petrol (and energy and food) soaring. Why is that? Do we all understand times are now tough and have been brainwashed into acceptance or is there no real desire to revolt as no recent protest has actually changed anything. Or are people aware that whatever we do, we are enslaved to circumstance and the global market regarding the prices of everyday goods? I really hope the government and the Bank of England sorts inflation out soon but I feel things will probably get worse before they get better.

It has been three months since my last cold, a record since starting to take the bus to work. Still, one has arrived with a vengeance, and not a particularly pleasant one either as it's snotty, spluttery and coughy. Why can't colds manifest themselves in less important parts of the body rather than the areas through which you need to think and breathe? I have had it for four days now and it shows no sign of going. Ah well, I can't complain. I must get to work, the price of ham is increasing almost exponentially you know.
