Confessions Of A Walker

I have taken up walking recently, utilising the light nights to take a brisk constitutional around our local area in an attempt to lose some weight.

Last night was a wondrous experience. Walking across a field, viewing a shimmering pink sunset with the smell of coal fires creating a sense of olfactory masturbation in my nostrils. It was heavenly. These experiences make life worth living.

Coal is lovely. *mmmm*

Coal in general, or burning coal? The smell of it burning is certainly evocative.

The smoke. It's very rare to smell it over here, but I love it when I do. ^^

I am lucky as it's quite a common smell here. I never tire of it.

Not far from me there's Monckton coke plant, which smells divine.

Still, I deeply miss living in my old little stone village near Skipton. Little in life is better than the smell of coal fires on a brisk freezing winters day.

I lived in a similar village in the North-East of England when I was growing up. I can still remember those winter smells :)

Walking is in great aid of anybody's efforts to drop a few kilos, and there's a lot to be seen in the area :)

There is indeed a great deal to see but you need to be persistent as walking doesn't burn that many calories compared to other forms of exercise.

Good for you. :)

I have to be honest. The first time I read your title I thought it said "Confessions Of A Wanker."

I really need more sleep. :D

Walk is awesome ^^ I do it every day with my dogs :) It also keep the bad thoughts again, as much as it keep the weight falling a bit ^^

I used to walk with my dog all the time, it was a great excuse to get loads of exercise. My weight fell off at the time but since she died, it has crept back on. I know that a brisk walk for 20 minutes each evening did the trick then, so hopefully it'll do the same now.

You're high...on life! :D

Really? I am so stressed these days too!! I am generally happy though.

I quite often go for an urban stroll of an evening. Sometimes, if I'm having one of my insomnia episodes, I'll go out in the small hours. Suburbia is a strange place at that time of night. Went out at 11pm last night and encountered two urban foxes in the space of five minutes.

I love strolling through suburbia in the middle of the night, it does have an evocative, almost romantic yet desolate appeal. Plus you can see a surprising amount of wildlife too - I once saw a hedgehog.

I love the smell of coal burning. Near where I live there used to be an old steam winding engine that drove the pit head gear. I remember the "chuff chuff chuff chuff" of the ancient steam engine. I think it was still working in the early 1970`s

That would have been a great place to live - shame there are so few left these days.
