The Hollow Sense of Gluttony

All you can eat Chinese buffets are evil. They give you a plate, a fixed price and then tempt you with a sumptuous array of goodies that are impossible to resist. Now my belly feels like someone's trying to blow up a hot air balloon from the inside. Plus I'm really regretting that final serving of coffee cake.

Thought you'd be used to it by now ;p

Me too *sob* - but I think our trip to Jumbos the other week only took things to greater and greater waistlines, I mean, things with regards to Chinese food consumption.

Jumbos is made of win ^^

This was a Banana Leaf restaurant - similar thing but sadly a lot less choice for vegetarians. Still the vegetables in creamy stuff was really nice and they do some fantastic chips. I can be exotic, me :-P

Don't know if the Banana Leaf is a chain or not - I think I have seen them around elsewhere - suffice to say that they are more expensive than Jumbo's (£9.49 as opposed to £5.49) and not as good. Still gorgeous though :)

I loves ya', but you'se must be a rookie....

When I go, it's the only day's meal I usually need!

It was all I needed in Sheffield a couple of weeks back although I did fill up with popcorn in the evening so I s'pose that's not entirely true. I wish I had had this at lunchtime though - going to sleep with this stomach ache is going to be nigh on impossible :(

That's what I do! It's a late lunch that becomes a dinner. Usually, by late in the evening I might have a little nosh myself. "Moovelous!"

Re: I loves ya', but you'se must be a rookie....

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2007-08-13 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't happen to have a little nosh on Laughing Cow cheese dippers or something do you? Or perhaps you just prefer moo-slei. Or moosaka? Enough of the cow puns hehe. I bet you could've buttered my popcorn too - buttered popcorn is soooo good :)

Re: I loves ya', but you'se must be a rookie....

[identity profile] mefurry.livejournal.com 2007-08-13 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Butter...Is the ONLY way I'll have my popcorn!

Re: I loves ya', but you'se must be a rookie....

Naked salted popcorn is quite nice and when you're in the cinema butter does tend to make a mess of your paws. This tends to cause the extra large Diet Coke (that you've just paid £3.50 for) to slip out of your paw and cover the poor woman in front of you with synthetic sugar and phenylalanine. Plus in all of the cinemas I've been in of late buttered popcorn is not an option. They still have those rancid glistening cinema hotdog things but no butter to squirt on my popcorn. I was most upset :(

I often put away three whole plates of food, plus dessert, and I'm not usually a big eater :)

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2007-08-13 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
It's just so tempting isn't it? It's likem a syren call tempting us with its deliciousness. You know you feel full but no, that spring roll must be eaten *sob*. I feel like I have a little dwarf in me (as opposed to a big dwarf) trying to punch his way out :(

[identity profile] shep-shepherd.livejournal.com 2007-08-13 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I generally stick with the curry and rice. Lots of rice :)

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2007-08-13 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't that Indian restaurants as opposed to Chinese? Must admit I prefer Indian food myself but I've been getting into Chinese of late, just like I've been getting into Starbucks I guess hehe (except Starbucks don't sell soy sauce in their nasty little grande tub things - perhaps they're missing a trick there).

[identity profile] shep-shepherd.livejournal.com 2007-08-13 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Lots of Chinese places have rice, but it's mainly egg-fried or has vegetables in it :)

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2007-08-14 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
The rice at this place had random prawny things floating in it - it was quite offputting. It looked like the Thames Estuary when the tide was out - without the random beer cans and polythene bags of course.

Egg-fried rice is gorgeous but my stomach doesn't like it - it probably would've tipped me over the edge had I eaten that yesterday. The vegetable stuff however was sumptuous to the point of devine. And now I'm over-exaggerating like that Jilly Goolden woman. I'd better stop.

Why do I find myself picturing the Mr Creosote section of Monty Python's "The Meaning of Life" at this point? ;)

"Would sir like a prawn cracker? It is waffer theen..."

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2007-08-14 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol.

"But sir, it IS only waffer theen"

Heathen :(

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2007-08-14 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww how come? *hugs*

[identity profile] londonwolf.livejournal.com 2007-08-14 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
Chinese buffets are made entirely of win.

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2007-08-14 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Not when you've eaten too much though. These things make you feel practically obliged to fill your plate until you are practically sick. It's the nearest thing you get to Christmas at every other time of the year. Except you don't get presents of course (but then when I went to a Chinese restaurant the time previous to this I did get presented with a marshmallow cock so I guess in many ways it IS like Christmas. Just without your surly relatives and the umpteenth re-run of "The Great Escape" on TV).

Ent + No additional cost to eating more = Disaster!

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2007-08-14 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to make a joke about rabbits and "eating any old shit" here but I decided against it hehe.

You sound very much like me - you might as well get your money's worth that's my general feeling. Even if that does mean needing a sickbag or a stomach pump at the end of the night :(

I'm gonna rush in and reply to this before you do another edit too, as I'm getting so many emails through. =:P But yeah, I'm all about a bargain. It's the Northerner in me! (...how long has he been in there o.O)

[identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com 2007-08-14 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww sorry. I was trying to word the response in as funny a way as possible without it being insulting to the lapine kind. I think I failed on the humour bit at least :(

Ooh I dunno how long he's been in there but if there's a Northerner trying to get out then perhaps you should let it. But perhaps not in such a public place as a Chinese buffet - that could be quite embarrassing. Hey, maybe that was why my stomach was feeling like a drunkard was drumming on the inside last night - it was my hidden Northerner trying to get out! It now all makes sense! Thanks hun *hugs*
