My sister has been visiting this weekend and so we decided to take in some traditional Yorkshire sites. The highlight of the day was our visit to UNESCO World Heritage site Saltaire. I have written about this giant mill and model town before but yesterday we got to go inside the beast. My sister was impressed with the town although the cobbles paid havoc on her high heels.

Some of the mill has now been converted to industrial and office units, holding digital set top box manufacturer Pace. I like the fact another use for this impressive mill has been found. There are also some charming shops in its confines, a gallery dedicated to local artist David Hockney and Burmantofts Pottery and a cafe with a wonderful clinging dog motif. I had tea and a teacake. We also watched the most Yorkshire video ever, detailing the history of the mill. We stayed so long we almost got locked in.

Aside from that, we walked around the town and went to the bar 'Don't Tell Titus' (named due to town and mill founder Titus Salt's penchant for the temperance movement). The restaurant there was top rate - excellent specialty sausage - although they did try to fob me off with prawn bisque soup instead of leek & potato.

After that we went home where we watched Family Guy, listened to a chav argument for the best part of an hour and ate Margherita Pizza flavour Pringles which taste like stale pizza. Friday evening was given over to drinking and curry - my sister now loves Brew Dog and met Lincoln, our local famous pub schnauzer. So good, if not expensive, weekend so far.
