My addiction to LJ is getting worse - so much so that it's starting to affect my job. I check LJ around 10 to 15 times a day at work, often once every half hour or so.

I feel the need to keep up to speed on all the furry gossip and goings-on. I often find myself being drawn to it like in a psyren call, knowing all the while that I really should be doing something more productive whilst in the office. However, the temptation for a 30 second look (which inevitably becomes much longer) is far too great for me and I inevitably succumb to its charms.

Does anyone else have this addiction (and how bad is it)?
Are you reading this at work right now?
And how would your employer react, should they find out?
Is there any way to calm the addiction, perhaps weening off LJ and moving over to the Forum or something as it's starting to become somewhat consuming...

I am just as addicted to you, makes me feel all loved and social. I can't help it ;\

I'm not reading this at work. I used to be quite addicted, but it's gotten better - I use the Livejournal add-ons plugin for Firefox, which automatically checks my friends page and lets me know how many new posts there are (if any), who made them (and in what community, if applicable), and what the subjects are. It's a great way of avoiding checking your friends page all the time just because something new MIGHT be there (you'll always know whether there is), and it also makes it easy to only actually check it if you deem any of the new posts important enough to do so.

Other than that, the only thing I can suggest is to simply not do it. And since you're at work and can distract yourself with other things (one hopes), it'd probably count as warm turkey, too. :)

*snugs*

Yeah, I have the addiction. It's pretty damn fucking tragic really.

I'll go to do some task or other, and without thinking discover my fingers have gone ctrl-t r-enter - which in firefox loads my friends page. (I don't do clicking bookmarks).

Then I realised I looked at this only 5 minutes ago and nothings changed again.

I don't know why :(

I admit, I'm reading this at work right now, but I'm on my break. Perhaps you could designate a few times during the day to check LJ, then slowly reduce that number?

I look at LJ a lot at work, or at least when I am at my desk, or when I am at my desk and bored. So at least 3 times a day then.

For me it can come and go. There will be times where I am very drawn to using LJ. Guess it depends what is happening and if your 'expecting' something to appear from another friend if you've been told in advance, that's what gets me normally.

If I can't think of anywhere to browse online, I always return to LJ too, heh.

It's good to see all these comments and know I'm not alone >.>

I use it a a reward for completing portions of projects.

Yeah, I do. It stops me from being productive. I have exams soon, but instead I'm stuck on here, doing fuck all.

Mine started about a week ago. Slow work week will cause me to spend more time here. hehe

In my case my employer probably wouldn't mind too much but most would probably not look favorably on it since we're suppose to be doing work. ;)

Yes :/

Are you reading this at work right now?
Yes :/ :/

And how would your employer react, should they find out?
Its unlikely they would, but I don't believe it would be a huge problem..

Not that I've found.... Its kind of corrected itself, compared to the past.

Being that you have a LJ account AND your a furry, your probably fucked *chuckles* The only thing you can do is embrace the fact your addicted and fly with it :P

I feel you do have a problem, which evidences itself via LJ, and I've been noticing it rising the past few months (as well as dropping unsubtle hints). But then maybe you should ask me that in person. =:P

Best knock that on the head. I have LJ open at work. I check it about every hour, and reply to friends posts if my email inbox lights up, but one must always strive to maintain a ballance. We are after all paid to be there to benefit the company. A symptom perhaps of losing interest in one's job as a result of daily grind.

I just check LJ when I am at work (like now) and respond to my friend's list and then leave it until the next day as not many people comment on what I write.

Take care.

Try removing everyone from your friends list. Then there will be nothing to read. Problem solved.
