If you could design a flag to represent your species - or to represent furry in general - what would it look like and why?

Mine would definitely have a paw in it somewhere. Perhaps a rainbow motif but then furry isn't completely gay so perhaps it wouldn't be appropriate. Maybe green would work - the colour of fields.

I like that. Does it have any meaning?

Taken directly from my website:

"The Grand Union flag is the centre of the the democratic system. It is loved by all the locals, as it represents freedom and the final union of bickering tribes of the old days. The flag itself is simple is design. Only two main colours are used. Red is a very important colour to the Caldarvierie. Being the same colour as blood, it represents new life, and eternal hope. Black is used to symbolize the darkness of older, less comfortable times. When viewed vertically the disc in the centre is supposed to be the sun rising over the horizon, banishing the darkness. The amount of red on the flag is greater than the black. This is used to symbolize the re-emergence of life and hope at the beginning of every new day. Gold is a colour traditionally reserved to honour war dead. A gold band is therefore sometimes placed around all four sides of the flag is used to recognise the People's Pioneers who brought the whole planet peace, democracy, and finally global union in the space of just 400 standard years."

I really need to update that.

Did you invent the flag yourself? What is its purpose? Sorry for being ignorant.

I have not written a great deal of detail about the history of Caldarvier, but I have ideas in my head. The union of the cervine tribes of Caldarvier came on the back of a nasty war. That flag represented hope at the end of it. I REALLY need to get this stuff down on paper.

Indeed you should, it sounds like an interesting concept. Good luck with it :)

It looks very much like the Greenland flag. I like it.

I did not know Greenland HAD one. That is quite cool.

It does look a little like the Greenlandic flag. Dunno where the design came from for that.

Now that I have looked it up, you're right. Though mine is on it's side, and different colours.

If a flag should be anything, it should be powerful and evocotive :)

exactly......^_^..... I have to see the thing often enough that I don't want it in a Fury nation flag
(besides it's only still there because our government is to gutless to make us a republic)

hmmmmm...... why not just have the stick yiff... on a field of gold..... large as life..... corner to corner...^_^

I agree with bigger stick yiff. The bigger the better :P

Didn't you guys have a referendum on the whole Union Flag thing about seven years ago? Thought you voted to keep it.

yeh we have done it 3 times in my life time..... and we republicans.... (for want of a word) lost 3 times straight by 1-2%

the reasons be 1. I’m British citizen living in Australia…that's my queen your trying to get rid of
2. I prefer the neutrality of a non-political figurehead rather than a politician. (referring to the governor general)

Don’t get me wrong…. I’d fine with the current constitutional Monarchic democracy
If the queen actually has anything to do with the way our system works……

We function as a republic in everything but name….. even the governor general is elevated from the Australian citizenship….. So as not to decentralise our power base…. And the position has never done anything in my life time… but look pretty

So I fail to see the point of keeping up a farce..... meanwhile the queen as as much power over us as she does britain

*chuckles* sorry about that

It does indeed. It is very important and should be a uniting symbol. Any further ideas yet?

Date: 2009-10-16 02:37 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lastres0rt.livejournal.com
I have not drawn the flag as such, but I've used it in much of Last Res0rt's supplementary materials.

It's Arael's flag, specifically - sky blue with a band of light yellow, and two crimson hands overlapping the boundary between the bands. The Crimson Hands are a direct reference to the Talmi's slave roots (and the blood shed in their struggle for freedom), while the sky blue and yellow bands are for the open air and sun, respectively, as a symbol of freedom and justice. Taken literally, it could be seen as a pair of hands held up against the sky, unchained and free, and the blood necessary to continually secure that liberty.

Hmm, I don't see the flag on the linked page but it does sound interesting. I do like flags with a theme or story behind it.

Personally I wouldn't, I've always hated the idea of flags and the divisive attitudes they encourage. You can't help what you are or where you were squeezed out into the world, so I never understood why something so immutable is reason to be so proud of it...

I tend to agree with you. Patriotism is one of my biggest dislikes and I don't think it should be encouraged at all. It too easily breeds nationalism and as you suggest - I would rather be proud of something I had achieved and I could control.

The UN flag. But with a paw instead of the globe. Simples! :D

Aye, something boundlessly global.

Or any of the P-5 ;) Russia has vetoed more resolutions on the Security Council than any other state:

http://www.globalpolicy.org/security-council/tables-and-charts-on-the-security-council-0-82/use-of-the-veto.html

Also, I intend to use my time to bully the major powers into doing more. The UN doesn't work without the Great Powers being willing to commit to it, and right now, they're not.
