Kinda sad the World Cup is over. Not only did it give me more work and thus more money but I always enjoy the tournament, and the excitement and passion it evokes. Having said that, I thought this year's competition was far from vintage and last night's final was truly dismal. I also don't think Spain were the best team at the tournament - they stifled the opposition, passed them to death and had little in the way of incisive attacking play. Their lack of goals speaks for itself - dull to watch sadly. Having said that, in the knockout stages they were the best team in each match they played so I guess I can't complain. But it was hardly a victory for football. I saw the match in Foley's in Leeds with a good friend of mine, who was visiting Shipley due to work and decided to meet up with me in Leeds after I finished my shift. We had lots of good continental beer, along with smoked German beer which tasted like drinking that Bavarian smoked cheese. It got sickly after a while. He had his work colleague there and we chatted about loads of things whilst I showd them the sights of Leeds - including a loud shouty woman at a bus stop and the bus station. No yum-yums at Greggs. They liked the town hall.

On Saturday, Wolfie and I discovered a new continental beer bar in Headingley which is full of win. We went down there at about 3pm because I got up late and realised that the only way I was going to get enough sleep to cope with a 6am start on Sunday morning was to retire semi-drunk. On our way to the place, we stopped off to get an award winning pork pie (it was nice, with loads of that lovely jelly) and I had an argument with a pissed bloke who didn't like the fact I was using a pavement. At the bar, we realised they had a World Cup Passport challenge on, where you can sample 16 beers, one from each country. So we sampled 12 that afternoon whilst playing pool and, later on, enjoying the company of Taneli. I beat Wolfie at pool because he potted the black ball. We also disappeared to the Caliente Cafe - one of the best Tex-Mex places I have ever been to - Taneli's chimichanga in a green pesto sminge was lovely - and we also saw England lose to Bangladesh in the cricket for the first time ever in The Original Oak. There were also lots of people dressed like Bananaman (and other superheroes), both in Headingley on Saturday and Leeds on Sunday which was strange. I liked the man wearing a fake pink wig but the frumpy ladybird woman who was not a day shy of 50 and had red eyebrow extensions made me feel a little ill.
