A week last Friday I braved the cold winter chill to go to my first football match in nearly a year. Circumstances have prevented me from seeing as much live sport as I would have liked in 2010 and I hope this will change next year. The quality of football itself wasn't particularly great - a sad testament to just how far we have fallen in recent years - but the atmosphere was amongst the best I have ever experienced. We even had a drummer who was guiding us through a range of songs in the second half, making the atmosphere all that more exhilarating.
I went on my own but I met an old work colleague at the ground, whilst I also got talking to strangers in the crowd too. Friends were soon made and we were all singing songs together, particularly when we scored early on in the game. This sense of camaraderie is something I have missed recently, so I hope to visit a few more towns and cities across the country following my team. As I said, the match itself wasn't much cop - we lost with the final kick of the game although there was no way we deserved to lose - but as an occasion, it was fantastic ^^
Other highlights include the £3 cornish pasty which I thought was a pie - it was still tasty though - and running for the last bus in the freezing cold. I was commended for my agility from the Doncaster fans on said bus. Indeed, the Donny supporters were in good humour, even on the way to the ground when I found that I was the only Boro supporter on the bus. I also ate at Wimpy - a £1.99 burger and chips meal which was what you would expect from a £1.99 burger and chips. It was extremely dry. Still, the staff were incredibly chatty and helpful and I took a picture of a cartoon fox on the wall of a children's play area because he looked a happy little fellow.
