It's been a very disheartening week.

On Saturday, I travelled to Manchester in the hope of seeing people that, in the end, couldn't come out to see me. I had been due to visit Tatton Park but due to commitments I had earlier in the day, I couldn't get there at a reasonable time (it takes nearly three hours on public transport from where I live to travel the 50 or so miles there). I still thought it would be worth travelling to Manchester though, particularly as signs were good that I could meet up with friends later in the day. Sadly, this wasn't to be, one of those circumstances things. Still, it was great spending time with Fen in TriBeCa, the new Manchester minimeet venue which is far better than Crunch (although to be fair most places are). We also went for delicious burgers at a restaurant overlooking a damp Piccadilly Gardens. That was rather nice.

On Sunday, I went to a restaurant with some friends only to have the meal ruined by some dubious cooking followed by a power cut. Also, I fear some heartfelt advice may have overstepped the mark even though it was said in the best of intentions as I don't want to see good people take unnecessary risks.

On Monday, a work colleague had his 1982 moped, worth about £10, from work's "secure" car park. What we think happened was the gates were opened to let a car in and they take about 60 seconds to close. Some scallies must have seen the moped, saw their chance and nicked it. We heard nothing in the office, which overlooks the car park, and the gate and pillar to which it was attached was destroyed, suggesting they yanked at it in panic to keep it open as they saw it was shutting.

On Wednesday, I discovered a good friend has blocked me on twitter, not just unfollowed but blocked, for reasons unknown. I know twitter is a transient medium and is no substitute for face to face interaction but I thought I had a good relationship with this guy, one where he would approach me if I had pissed him off. Unfollowing I accept but blocking suggests o want nothing to do with you anymore, so I won't deny it hurts. I have been racking my brain to work out what prompted the block but I cannot think of anything specific. I've certainly never deliberately annoyed him and indeed have avoided talking about certain legitimate topics in the past so as not to offend him. Maybe this is what this is about but I see no point in censoring my own twitter feed based on the proclivities of someone else. As I don't think the blocking relates to anything heinous or indeed specific though, it is sad that an explanation was not given. I've still got his number though, perhaps I'll ask him, or maybe just write it off as a lost cause.

And last night I barely slept due to the howling wind around my attic flat :(
