I was doing so well with the dry August weight loss endeavour, having lost 1.5kg over the course of the month so far, but yesterday was always going to blow it out of the water. The only saving grace of course was that it was Leeds Meet day, which meant I had already factored this in. However, with Gothicat coming to visit over the weekend, we knew that the alcohol would be flowing and although we did our best to be moderate, drinking over the course of twelve hours tends to only yield one result. Still, we were pretty disciplined during the meet itself, which was very well attended considering we lost a few regulars to Eurofurence. Fortunately, the weather was perfect - dry and sunny but with a stiff breeze - meaning taking the fursuiters over to City Beach outside the library was a straightforward affair. This was just as well as with thirty-one fursuiters, we did have a rather large number, and it was great letting them lose around the concessions. The same was true up at the barrel where there was a Jamaican Christian choir group singing about how much Jesus loved you. They were pretty benign though, unlike the street preachers on Briggate, and so we could get our photographs in. Here I also got chatting to a nice elderly lady who was wondering what it was all about, and she seemed genuinely interested to hear all about us.

The rest of the meet was largely social, with much conversation with Avon, Taneli, Gothicat and the two friends she had encouraged to come from Glasgow. One of her friends was a wheelchair user and it was encouraging to see how accommodating the bar was, as was Brewdog North Street where we ended up after the Meet. This saw Taneli, Lynden, Wolfie, Gothicat and her two friends head up to try some tasty craft beer and mourn the passing of Sqew, the kebabs which had moved into their kitchen only in May. This was the last weekend of their residency and I will be sorry to see them go, as they are wonderfully tasty. Apparently, they are looking for more permanent premises in the city. Our drinking was reasonably sedate, we certainly weren't downing beers, but high strength beer does catch up with you so by the time we got to 10pm, we were feeling it. I walked Gothi's friends back to the station so they could catch the 10:15pm train back to Manchester, with Gothi and Wolfie ending up in little Leeds Brewdog, where I met them once I had dropped her friends off. I then had a delicious Lone Wolf lemon gin in here while largely talking to the bar staff before we all went back to Gothi's room for a few hours to chill.

Sunday saw Wolfie drive over to Tadcaster for the Motorfurs meet, leaving me with a spare afternoon. Having been told Gothi's train was not until 4:45pm, I decided to head out to meet her, convening in the Slug and Lettuce on Park Row. I had never been in this bar before but it was kitted out quite nicely, plus it was great to see Meesh and her partner there too. The hour we spent in here was largely a reminiscing session, particularly back to the days of 2007-2009 and the early UK cons. It was great to relive these days, speaking of old friends we sadly no longer know and remembering just how young and innocent we were. After this, Messh needed to head home and Gothi was craving some crackling and a yorkshire pudding so we headed up to the ropey Crown Carvery in the Merrion Centre. The Sheffield United versus Crystal Palace game was on the big TV while there were a few kids running around, but the food was solid with the pork being particularly succulent. I had it with mint sauce as I don't give a damn about convention, while this gave us a good hour or so to chat about all range of things. Once Gothi's train was approaching, we then headed back to her hotel to get her bags before I walked her to the station, seeing her off at around 4:30pm.

At a loss for things to do, I ended up being reminded of a new bar we had not yet tried - Brownhill & Co. This was a sister bar to the Little Leeds Beer House and is on the same street as Geek Retreat, so pretty close to my bus stop. I thought I might as well swing by and see what it was about, with it being a little like The Sparrow in Bradford. It was quite quiet, but I enjoyed supping (an admittedly expensive) beer whilst listening to the cricket and reading about all of the events at the forthcoming Leeds Beer Week. The staff were great too, but with my head still blasting through last night's beer, I didn't want to drink too much. Furthermore, with Wolfie heading home too, I decided to stick with one half before heading back home after a good weekend.
