Husky Blushes
Jan. 1st, 2020 09:59 pmWe had initally planned to go out for new year, like we had done last year, but there was a lack of interesting looking events in the local area. Coupled with this is that I am notriously bad at planning things like this, so anything that was of interest had already sold out. Consequently, resigning ourselves to not being invited anywhere again and knowing that a few of our friends were at Furvester, we thought we would content ourselves with going out to one of the Brewdog bars in Leeds.
All of this changed when I was in SE Asia when Cosmo inquired as to what we were doing, with him having no plans himself. Remembering how surprised I was last year that a large number of my friends were home alone, we started putting feelers out and last night we managed to have a group of five around our house, with Hemi and Bazil joining us from around 7pm. The evening itself was quite chilled, with the five of us largely just chatting, although I'll admit I did feel a little left out last night with some of the talk about cars and ham radios. Still, I contented myself with Twitter and all in all I had a good time, with the chips and dip as well as the pizza going down very well (Domino's were no longer accepting orders but Papa John's were, thankfully).
At midnight we turned on the rather subdued fireworks displayed in London and Edinburgh, wondering why we need fifteen minutes of them when surely three would do, before going back to our chatting. In the end, Hemi went home about an hour later, Bazil got to play with Wolfie's VR and I headed to bed quite early, at around 2am, as I'm still feeling quite knackered and not yet fully recovered from this cold.
By the time we got up today it was past lunchtime and I headed over to Sainsbury's to get some breakfast/lunch supplies. Then we all had bacon sandwiches and chatted some more, particularly about our plans to leave the UK this year, with me procrastinating my starting of work as today was technically a workday for me. With Cosmo leaving about 3:45pm, I felt compelled to start, leaving Bazil speaking to Wolfie for another hour and a half before he headed off too.
And with that the Festive Period is over. We are now trying to lose weight, but of course we still have a load of Christmas supplies yet to eat so I suspect this will be delayed slightly. Meanwhile, I think the next week will predominantly be fine before the real drudgery starts again on Monday, with politics likely to depress my mood significantly as the year goes on. While I think 2020 will be a very bad year for the UK, I am hopeful it will be a very good year for me and I finally get the opportunity to leave. This is certainly the primary target for this year and with one job already applied for, I'm glad I've made a start.
