Britain is in debt, Europe is in even more debt and the American financial markets don't look too healthy either. However, student loan withstanding, I no longer have any personal debt. This means that the transition to a new job and a new city to live with Wolfie is finally complete, which is a significant milestone. I never wanted to get into debt but the cause was greater than the short-term financial pain. Sometimes in life you need to take calculated risks.
Anyway, as of yesterday, I am out of my overdraft, back in the black and with a healthy bank balance for the first time in five months. In essence, I now have money again and no longer need to be looking over my shoulder, provided the employment keeps coming. It's a significant weight off my mind. Now is the time to start living again :-)

Date: 2010-05-27 07:36 pm (UTC)Other than a mortgage that I've worked to reduce pretty significantly to date, the only debt I have is on my soon to be installed bathroom, and even that is covered by savings, it's just Santander wanted to give me 15 months interest free on balance transfers. Be daft not to really :)
There's a great deal to be said for living within your means.

Date: 2010-05-27 09:35 pm (UTC)I still sometimes try and have what I'd term "Super Noodle weeks" from time to time if I know I've got a few chunky expenses coming up. It's also fun, in a perverse sort of way, and makes you realise how little you actually NEED. Not especially good for a consumer driven economy, but then that's what got us in the whole sorry mess in the first place!

Date: 2010-05-27 10:57 pm (UTC)I am a big fan of using economy toilet paper but it's causing a lot of friction in the house. Which is the main problem really. I agree with you though, I do try and be frugal as much as possible, largely because it funds my gallavanting around the world.
