It's been another busy weekend all told - with two birthdays, lots of alcohol and a 120 mile round-trip on Friday after I promised a friend of mine I would look after his Internet business whilst he was away at his brother's wedding.
Wolfie and I are both heading off to Germany tomorrow so I will have limited Internet access for the next week. If you are going to EF then I will see you down there but if you're not then I hope you all have a great week and we'll catch up when I get back.
And finally a point of note: As the opening titles to Stingray say: "Anything can happen in the next half hour". But in all likelihood, you're probably just going to watch Stingray.
Afterwards Funky, Wolfie and I went into Leeds City Centre to celebrate the fox's birthday. We started off at the station, did a tour of the cash machine and then headed to Queen's Court. Finding that was busy we had two bottles of Tyskie (excellent Polish beer - I suggest you try it) in the Hogshead before heading up to the Birdcage. The Birdcage had a transvestite theme going on - with the DJ in drag frequently being interrupted by various stage-acts involving men in dresses. It was all good fun and the alcohol was cheap and wholesome. So much so that I got a little drunk as one vodka flowed into another. This was combined with the tiredness induced by my travelling, my day of Internet labour and the fact I had gotten up at 6am. All of this resulted in me asking the DJ to declare my love to Wolfie on three separate occasions (using our fur names), asking the DJ if they had any German industrial metal and refusing to speak in nothing but German during the taxi ride home. No wonder the driver charged us £26 for what is usually a £15 fare.
Understandably alcohol was off the menu on Saturday, largely because I had one of the worst stomach aches I've ever endured (I now realise that eating two tins of beans between us the afternoon after the night before is a very bad idea). The three of us therefore decided to go for a curry to celebrate Wolfie's birthday. Wolfie and I had gone to the restaurant on Thursday evening and I had had the best Vegetable Dopiaza I have ever tasted. On Saturday it was the turn of the Vegetable Bhuna to impress and although it wasn't as good as the onion-based dish it was still a gastronomic pleasure. I also drank a lot of Mango Lassi which truly is a drink from the gods. It also cured my stomach ailment although I ate so much I was almost sick again. Ah well I have always been one for having eyes bigger than my belly. Seriously - The Eastern Spice in Cleckheaton is one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever been to - highly recommended if you're ever in the region.
Afterwards we decided to head back and watch a DVD - The Brotherhood of the Wolf. It's sort of a martial arts werewolf movie - set in Revolutionary France. The plot was crazy but the acting was strong and the storyline gripping enough that I didn't notice it was over two hours long - and that's from someone with the attention span of a gnat. Plus it had lots and lots of wolves in it (although there was a nasty scene where they went wolf hunting in order to cry and catch "The Beast" and they ended up killing a lot of our kind - displaying their pelts on wooden crosses as a poignant afterthought. That made me sad. Well that and the fact we ran out of Doritos *sniff*).
After waking poor Funky up in fursuit (hey if it was Butlins I'd be getting PAID to do that), today we popped into Bradford for a delicious Java Choc Chip Creamy Latte thing from Starbucks. We also bought some light reading for the plane journey tomorrow. There was a 3 for 2 sale on picture books at Waterstones so I bought I Love My Cloth by Amber Stewart and Lyn Marlow (that one's about a rabbit who loves his cloth - I'm hoping that the plot is a little more dimensional than that), My Little Star by Janet Bingham & Rosalind Beardshaw (this is about two cute little foxes and is described as "A special, sparkly story for sharing at bedtime" (I'm hoping Wolfie will honour that)) and Wibbly Pig's Silly Big Bear by Mick Inkpen (you've just got to love Wibbly Pig and his madcap adventures). Reviews are to follow. I also bought two books by Rob Grant (Incompetence and Fat), the co-creator of Red Dwarf.
We also went to Pets at Home where I got a wolf calendar and a siberian husky calendar. I felt quite self-conscious walking around the petstore in collar, particularly when I was looking at the leash section (it's not something I normally do to be honest). Indeed as we left the store three morons shouted at me "hey mate, where's your leash?". It was at that moment I wished Wolfie could have brought out a leash to really freak them. In the store, my fears dissipated when Wolfie bought me a brand new collar - a pink affair with little bone shapes on it. It's really adorable and I'm wearing it proudly at this very moment (it is technically the only thing I am wearing as all my clothes are currently being laundered in preparation for Germany).

The plot is very good and I, like you, like what the beast turned out to be. It also has an element of historical credence too which is another reason why I liked it.
As werewolf movies go it's one of the best ones but there is so much dross out there in the genre that there isn't a lot of competition. I was suitably impressed with this one though.

Date: 2007-09-11 05:27 pm (UTC)I guess it's not quite a werewolf movie is it - it's more about wolves and the fear behind them. That's just the anthro part of my character getting confused. That and the chronic tiredness. It was an amazing film though :-)

Lupestripe; Mood killer!

Date: 2007-09-02 11:25 pm (UTC)Sorry to kill the mood hun, I hadn't thought of that to be honest. Hmm next time I'll say nothing - that way people can mrr over me wearing a collar but won't have to worry about the me being naked part. Unless that has killed the mood forever *sob*.
It is a cute collar though (I'm still wearing it and I'm still naked) - just need to get a bone-shaped tag now to go with it :-)
