Pet Swap

Does anyone remember a kids programme (CITV I think) called Pet Swap starring Dave Benson Phillips? I think it was on about ten years ago and involved children swapping places with their pets.

All I remember was that the kids had to dress up as dogs/cats/hamsters/chinchillas or whatever and then perform tasks as their pets. So if they were hamsters they would have to run around a giant obstacle course in one of those giant balls or something.

I also remember Dave Benson Phillips pretending to phone their pets to ask them how they thought their owners were getting on. All it was was some poor producer backstage putting on voices for these pets, telling their owners how proud of them they are. I remember the chinchilla one had such a bad Mexican accent I would have probably disowned the pet as soon as I got home. Poor thing.

Does anyone remember this or is it the result of some scary dream phase I had a decade ago?

Apparently not - it DID exist. I've had far scarier dreams since though...

Worryingly it was in 2001 so I would have caught it in my student days - I thought it was longer ago than that. Still glad to find out it existed and it wasn't some scary thought process tormenting me.

2001 was my first year at university so I found the drinking/clubbing scenes around about then. We also didn't have a TV in our house so we couldn't watch it anyway. Not that I wanted to - I don't watch any TV now and haven't for about six or seven years. I'm like you, far more interested with the interwebs - there's more going on there. Still, I never miss "Have I Got News For You" and "Peep Show" - they're the only two programmes I religiously watch really.

Still at uni it is fun to lounge around watching daytime TV - there's nothing like This Morning, Jeremy Kyle and children's hour to nurse a painful hangover :-)

It was one of the many programmes which went out during the final period of decent investment at CITV. From the pages of my good old TV Whirl, there's a promo which refers to it:-

Ooh cool! I remember that presenter and he is quite good! As you say CITV was quite good back then - am I the only one who thinks that TV over the last five years has got steadily worse?
