Two Years In The Fandom

19 December 2006 was the day that I padded into IRC for the first time to start my baptism into the furry community. Within ten minutes I was called Lubestripe and had already been propositioned. Perhaps it set a tone.
I don't know how I feel about the Fandom really - perhaps it's a microcosm of life. I have made some very close friends and have (somehow) picked up the sweetest mate in the world and for this I am eternally grateful. Equally, the Fandom also helped me come out, which was a huge help and relief for me.
At the same time, however, a lot of the (often needless) drama I find irritating. I have probably become more cynical about the Fandom over the last two years - realising now that it wasn't the utopia I had hoped it would be and accepting that, like any group of people, it will have its attributes and problems.
Still, I am glad that I made that first foray into #northuk (as it was at the time) two years ago as I have met so many of you and have had so many unique experiences - the Fursuiting, the Cons and the opportunities to visit far off lands I never thought I would visit (well, okay, Portugal and Finland). This is the true strength of the Fandom - meeting people from across the world and sharing in a common interest.
And long may it continue. I love you all.
