The Cult Of Physical Attractiveness

The most offensive thing I hear on a daily basis is the phrase "He/She's Fit". I can't stand it - I hate the connotation that because you are physically fit, it somehow makes you more attractive. Despite the fact it clearly matters to a lot of people, this is not necessarily the case in objective terms. Everyone is individual and should be judged on their own merits, even if you are in the 99.99% of the world that judges people on physical attractiveness or where it forms an important part of your judgement on someone.
Unfortunately, this is where I don't fit in. Physical attractiveness doesn't turn me on. Granted physical ugliness is something I do notice but only in extreme cases.
The fact is that I think I am blind when it comes to the area of physical attractiveness. I just don't find people attractive. I get aroused by situation, rather than people. I have only found four people in my entire life who I have found physically attractive - the attraction I have with others is usually on a mental or spiritiual level.
Yet in a world in which the media tells me who I should be pawing over on a regular basis (usually some big buxomed wench with the brain the size of a pea), I can't help but feel left out. It's the cause of much frustration - this cult that the beautiful people have more value in society. The fact that certain magazines and newspapers imply that because you don't look like x or don't have a handbag made by y you somehow have less value than someone who does. I find it sickening.
Further to this, I don't understand appearance whores. I can understand why people may want to groom themselves or dress nicely for themselves but if anyone judges you on how you dress or look then they really aren't worth knowing. And as for myself, apart from regular washes, I don't really see the point in doing anything else. I really don't care about my appearance - again, I'm probably in a tiny minority on this one.
