A Lesson From Europe

It is very difficult being a pro-European in this country. I feel many of Britain's problems would be best resolved by adopting a more European model yet frequent misinformation results in the benefits of EU membership often going unrecognised by an increasingly rabid and right-wing agenda. In fact it's hard to find any positive stories about the EU in our current partisan media.
I am not saying the EU is perfect and I do think there is room for negotiation on certain powers being brought back to our sovereign parliament. However being in the EU means we have an element of influence over it and if we still want to trade with Europe we would have to enact many EU laws anyway. I never thought I would agree with David Cameron yet I find his brand of Conservatism quite agreeable - it's just the rest of his party I find so objectionable.
Latest polling suggests 47% of people want to leave the EU compared to 33% who wish to stay. This leaves many undecided and I feel many of the Eurosceptics may want a renegotiation of terms rather than outright withdrawal. Anyway, ultimately, I want to live in an EU country - if Britain seceded from the EU, I will move to a country far more in keeping with my political values. I feel like I don't fit in here anyway and am struggling to take any pride in my country as it is. Sorry, but that's just the way I feel - and I know I am not alone.
