My dad and sister came to visit last night. We had a very enjoyable evening at The Wetherby Whaler, a local fish and chip restaurant of the kind that used to be in most towns and cities in days of yore. Everything was leaking - the teapot, the vinegar, the milk - but the food was excellent quality and huge portions too. The mushy peas were divine but then mushy peas always are. The fish had crispy batter and the chips were dry and fluffy. All served with tea, and bread and butter. A traditional slice of heaven. My sister was shocked at the size of things while the clutz of a waiter asked for our order before giving us the menus. Service is normally good there - yesterday was an off-day.

We then showed them the sights of our hometown, such as they are, before writing to our house for tea and chatter. They have visited before but had never looked around the town. It was the first time I had seen them since Christmas - the 80 mike drive is just too far to make meetings regular - but we had fun. They only stayed a couple of hours due to work commitments but it was a nice way to spend an evening.

You do, we have had a few discussions on mushy peas and one offer to buy some for him but so far croc has been inflexible :(

Because it looks gross and tastes of...nothing.

Very glad to hear you've had a good time with your family. Albeit the peas :P

Looks can be deceiving. And mushy peas taste very nice if seasoned correctly.

I could give it a go provided they had a lot of spice in them. Otherwise, newp :P

It's more a subtle flavour really. I am not sure spice would work :(

Then I'm not sure it would find a way into my maw :D

You should try proper mushy peas, you may change your mind.

I prefer my peas steamed fresh out of the garden.

Steamed is healthier.

Also don't feel like eating something that looks like it is fresh fom a baby's nappy.

I have never seen shit that is lurid green, or indeed looks like mushy peas at all. Steamed peas are healthier but you can't buy those in fish and chip shops sadly.

I've never had mushy peas before. Are they anything like split pea soup?
