This weekend is now sorted thanks to some fantastic friends, both furry and non-furry.

Special thanks go to alexfox for putting up with me on Friday and harlequeen for offering. I'll be in Cambridge for the meal before heading over to Alex's later in the evening. I'll be civil to the devout Catholic guy but I think that friendship has run its course. People change, they evolve, and this sort of thing sometimes happens. And I won't deny that since 2001 I have changed too. The mature thing to do is to tolerate him for the evening, avoid this particular topic, and then casually walk away with minimal fuss. Different views I can take - many of my friends think completely differently to me - but downright intolerance is different. Just like I wouldn't socialize with a racist, I don't want to socialize in this instance either.

My friend in London understands my view about Portsmouth and will meet me once he returns in the early evening. Then we'll go out for a while before retiring to his for the evening.

I don't know if this series of events has shown me up to be stubborn or principled. I an a very tolerant guy but I am intolerant of the intolerant. Confronting my past - and the dick at Portsmouth - is definitely a bad idea but my Catholic friend is a tough one. I do think I have made the right call though, I'm just sad it resulted in so much hassle. But there is something honourable about sticking to principles and in this case I do believe I am right.

Thanks to everyone again for helping me out, it's very much appreciated.

"I am a very tolerant guy but I am intolerant of the intolerant."

Don't take this the wrong way hun, but I've often found you to be incredibly intolerant of a lot of things. You've hurt my feelings on a number of topics by being so blunt and sometimes even aggressive in the way you put your opinion across, especially if it differs from mine. Just thought I'd mention it.

On topic: Glad you managed to find somewhere else to stay :) You can bet your top dollar that the devout Catholic guy would have brought up the topic at some point no matter how hard you try to avoid it, so spending the night elsewhere is a good plan.

I am sorry you feel this way, this was certainly never the intention. Sometimes I do say blunt things to get a laugh - it may not be something I specifically believe. If you can enlighten me on which specific topics I have offended you, it would be appreciated.

It's more the "This is my opinion on xxx and if you disagree then you're an imbecile" feeling I sometimes get from you, especially when discussing tastes. I've often heard you use sentences such as "I group them with the sort of cunts who like xxx", and "xxx" is sometimes a thing I like so it upsets me somewhat. It may just be that you sound aggressive when you say it which makes me think you mean it seriously, it could be just me who's too easily offended. If it turns out to be the latter, I apologize for bringing it up. :)

I imagine it's probably a bit of both, although I don't think I have EVER said anything as base as "I group them with the sort of cunts who like xxx". Sometimes I do over-exaggerate my views to get a laugh but on issues on which I am passionate, perhaps I overstate my case which could appear somewhat aggressive, particularly when under the influence of alcohol. It has never been my intention to offend though and if I do, please tell me at the time so I have a clearer idea of where the issue is.
