Stewart Lee has been one of my favourite comedians for nearly 20 years, ever since the days of Fist of Fun in the mid-Nineties. He is a master of deconstructionist and subversive comedy and in Bradford last night, he was fantastic. His latest Carpet Remnant World tour seemed to be sparse on content but this was the point - and looking back on it, a very clever way to fill two hours. Slow in places, trudging even, before an absolutely killer line dispersed the slight tension he had built up.

It was very intelligent comedy, not joke after joke but concepts and premises you had to think about abstractly. I like this - particularly his use of French to relate to a previous point he had made. We had to make the leap though - there was no hand holding. I also like his acerbic liberal nature as it matches strongly with my own. He also spent a lot of time assessing, and on occasion criticising, his audience, which is something I have never seen a comedian do in such a way. Plus trying to apply logic to the rabid thoughts people often post on the internet is always fun. This was the first time I had seen him and pup says see the show if you can :)

And my God does he hate twitter...

I noticed you could buy the first series of it on DVD at the gig so it may be available at other outlets. It was an excellent show. We are seeing Richard Herring next week too - looking forward to it.
