Squelching In Thine Underpants
Sep. 10th, 2012 09:48 amSocially, things seem to be getting better and better this year. One stunning weekend follows another and the two days past were no exception.
Fenra came round to visit and we had a full weekend of packed entertainment for him.
On Saturday, I was due to do some charity fursuiting in Normanton so we boarded the Wolfie mobile and headed over there for a 10am start. I was participating in a parade through the streets as my charity is the mayor's official one. After some confusion about appearing in the parade, and Fen feeding two small spiders to two bigger spiders for some reason, the safety officer consented and I was soon dresses as a bear dancing behind some cheerleaders who spent the next two hours listlessly dancing to the Vengaboys. Over and over. Forever.
Saturday was hot, tilting at 30 degrees, and the parade seemed to last forever. What I thought would be 45 minutes became mote than twice that and with no escape from the parade, I had to 'bear' the heat as best I could. This meant I nearly melted inside the thing as ever stop was greeted with profanity from inside my head but we eventually got to the park where the gala was and I swiped a drink.
After a greasy burger and a nice chat to some army band guys who, in their black uniforms were almost as hot as I, we headed into the gala to raise money, hug children and pester the police like I normally do. It was an awful lot of fun but I was soaked in sweat by the end of it, so much so my underpants were squelchy and I got pant chafe on my buttocks.
Afterwards we were due in Sheffield for Patter's housewarming, which consisted of a tour of the finest hostelries the city had to offer. Baloki and Mister P had started earlier than us, with Adia and Soma joining later, but we were there by 7pm and enjoyed a nice Chinese at a place called Wong Ting, a delicious restaurant with a name ripe for punning. I wasn't found Wong Ting...
We them toured some good bars, with me drinking high strength beer so getting drunk far too quickly than is sensible, particularly after mass dehydration. Still, Patter was in happy drunk mode, which is always cute, and we didn't want to leave but sadly last t'rain was calling. Back in Leeds we headed to the North Bar where Fen fell asleep and Wolfie and I had a fundamentally pointless argument.
Sunday was always going to be the more sedate and chilled of the two days as we were heading to the Yorkshire Food Festival in Saltaire where cheese, meats and plenty if pickles were the order of the day. We were delighted to discover the existence of Pudsey Pickles, a small home run pickling plant in someone's kitchen just down the road. Their strawberry and pink champagne jam is divine and we bought five varieties of preserves from them. We also bought a load of cheese for a cheese and cracker party we had later in the evening, simultaneous to our Red Dwarf marathon.
Craving eggs Benedict, we went to Don't Tell Titus for our naughty treat before meeting ip with Arcais and Draken who also liked Pudsey Pickles and the range of sauces on offer. We them headed to the park where a dog show was taking place, including a reward for waggliest tail which I so would have won had I entered. The Saltaire Dog Walkers had a stall with loads of pets including some snakes, which I fortunately managed to avoid. There was one big chunky bugger though and I felt sorry for the rabbits in the nearby hutches. We also went to the Half Moon Cafe and sat on the grass watching the dogs playing, including a beautiful brown collie who loved playing frisbee. We all wanted to take him home, he was so adorable, plotting a way to do just this but we didn't want to make his owner sad so we just watched. Perhaps we should get a dog of our own...

And then.. you might partake of perhaps the most wonderful Eggs Benedict to be found, in the most superlatively civilised setting possible. Certainly not the cheapest, but so excellently prepared, and with a chamber quartet playing in the background, where Beau Nash held many a soirée - it's a sublime experience. ^_^ (And run by the local council! =:)

Yow! Sounds like a sweltering performance. Do you have any sort of cooling packs or active ventilation built in?

Tell me about it. =:) I'd been on my paws for about nine hours by the time I sat down at the pub at the top of the hill on Friday evening, a little too late for the final bus back into town. I finished a pint of reasonable cider and a glass of water in under 20 minutes, and the next pint didn't last much longer. But I'd earned it. And you definitely did. ^_^
