Both Taneli and I are a huge fan of the Hairy Bikers, and TV cooking shows in general, so when we saw that our favourite bearded Northeners were doing a tour, we had to get tickets.

We didn't know what to expect really. Granted there was cooking - a diet jalfrezi and a salmon terrine being the feature dishes - but there was much more than that. Indeed, in many ways it was like a comedy gig as Dave Myers and Si King had an understanding on the parallel of most comedy double acts.

There were highlights from their TV shows shown on a big screen, which were weaved into a narrative. There was also The Hairy Bikers Lucky Dip Strip which saw two lovely ladies compete with the Bikers for prizes, with the unlucky losers being forced to strip off on stage. Escapology also featured, along with a lot of transvestism and dancing, largely courtesy of Myers *shudder*.

And there were puns, lots of puns and disturbing analogies, such as dripping butter into a hollandaise sauce as if it was like an old women with a leaky prostate. There were also many disturbing nods to Nigella. Like many comedians, you could tell if this was improvised or scripted, while Si's straight man to Dave's funny man was hilarious, particularly with his excellent facial expressions.

So all in all, a marvelous night in the mould of the variety show starring two middle aged Northeners and a whole load of cooking thrown in. Unfortunately we were in the Upper Balcony so couldn't try the food but it was a great evening nonetheless.
