The last twenty-four hours have been great, spending time with Fioxy and Sora.

The bunneh had an open day at Teesside University and I offered him a place to stay the night. I also offered to show him around my town to see if he could get a feel for the place.

In the end we had a great night. We went to see Cloverfield which was a bit like The Blair Witch Project but not as intense. The monster CGI was quite good but I found it quite hard to empathise with the characters which was quite clearly the point with the protracted party sequence at the start of the film. It was still a unique movie though and I'm glad I went to see it. And the complaints about the camera work are unfounded, it made the feel of the movie somewhat different and it wasn't too disorientating. In fact, it added to the suspense rather than anything else.

Before this, the three of us went to Pizza Hut where we filled up on cholesterol. The chef thought the serving wench said "prawns" not "pork" so we got a free large pizza, which made us all burst at our waistlines. I've eaten little since.

After that, Fioxy sadly had to go so it was me and Sora. I showed him round the rather desolate town (Boro's weird like that mid-week) and then we went for a few drinks in the Star pub (where I always seem to be able to pull the bar staff) before we had more drinks at home. It was a cool evening and it was great he stayed over.

In other news it looks like they've got as far down as 605 in the EF registrations as I have just received the payment email. I have two weeks to send the monies and I'll do it next week. So it looks like I'm going to EF! Yeys!!

There's apparently an overflow hotel now, but the prospect of such is so unappealing that I'd rather forego attending the con this year. The organisers really must look for a large hotel in one of the big cities, in order to accommodate everyone who wishes to attend next year, not just somewhere which happens to be about ten miles from where many of them live...

Is that how they decided the Ringburg? Problem is that it will be hard to find an 800+ guest hotel anywhere in Europe, particularly one that is going to be fur-friendly and that will keep the prices down. What happened in previous years? Did they choose a place near where they lived then?

As for the overflow, I agree with you, it adds a massive inconvenience to it and it would make it unenjoyable for me. Equally, if they couldn't sort security out at one hotel, surely it's going to be worse with two?
