Can't you see these skies are breaking?
Feb. 25th, 2008 10:29 pmYORK MEET - SATURDAY 23rd FEBRUARY
I guess this was the meet that restored my faith - both in myself and in the Fandom. Things have been quite tough of late and as I headed down to the Minster city I was fearful of fitting in, of being confident and trying to beat the inherent shyness that for some reason has returned to me recently.I was a couple of hours late for the meet due to work commitments. This meant I was confronted with
balto_mike and
lsfiox both in suits organising a fursuit walk as I burst in to Varsity some three hours late. I must admit that both looked particularly dapper in their sophisticated attire and quite nicely in contrast to the fursuiters.
crysta's suit looks particularly fine, I was most impressed and it was cool seeing her enjoying herself.
fen_ra also had his suit out for the first time and
lazyhowl and
cheetahkid were both lolloping about in the furriest of manners. It was very liberating to see.
The walk itself was great fun although the first in a series of weird events that happened to me over the weekend occurred. I was walking over Lendal Bridge when I said to my good buddy
greyscar that I really needed alcohol. Right at that moment, the old biddy in front of me turned round and said "No what you need is Jesus". I was in two minds to say "What you need is to butt out of other people's conversations you nosy cow" but alas I'm sure she went well and I didn't want to hurt her.
After touching
lazyhowl's crotch and cracking really poor jokes that for some reason made
patter_snowfox laugh, we took a million pictures including pictures of others taking pictures of us. It was like the infinite cat project without the cat. So not like the infinite cat project at all then. I was also stopped in the street and asked what this was all about, only to find I had no real answer so I scarpered. We also upstaged a rather impoverished looking clown. No doubt he'll be stabbing needles into a fursuit shaped doll as we speak (isn't that called a plush? Ed).
Varsity beckoned next for drinks and, erm, more drinks. I don't know why I have a habit of drinking so much at the moment but after telling myself I would only have one double vodka, I ended up having nine. This was difficult as I had to be at a party in London at 7pm and I really shouldn't have been drunk when I got there. I got there at 11:40pm but no one really seemed to mind. Y'see they moved the platform of the train without telling me and the subsequent train was over fifty minutes late. Hmm, refunds perhaps? That's a possibility. Anyway I was downing G&T on this train and speaking to an eloquent Geordie football fan so indeed, one does exist. Anyways I digress.
There was a quiz in Varsity that was run by the ever blonde Boris lookalike Fioxy. I was never told about the result, I wonder if I won. Do I get a prize? I hope it's something nice. I don't want something gay after all :P
Some people left for bowling whilst the remainder went to Lendal Cellars. It was here that I started to feel down and I needed twenty minutes to steel myself and pick up some courage. So I decided to walk to the Ouse and look at the water for a bit, it was very tranquil and peaceful but inside I was struggling.
A quick talk with the ever supportive
wolfie_uk reassured me that all was okay and that was all I needed. The next two hours were amongst the best I have ever had in the fandom. Suddenly feelings of isolation, of feeling that I don't fit in dissipated as I felt fully integrated in the community. Most importantly everyone was having fun and it was great feeling that sense of closeness again. It was also great meeting new furs, in this case Loganwolf, whose first furmeet this was. I'm glad he had a good time.
Someone also said I had a nice arse, which is always nice to hear. So whoever you were, thanks *wags*
Sadly, due to my need to be in London, I had to leave shortly after. But a short meet was a good one and I'm looking forward to Newcastle this weekend.
However some strange things happened in London too. Yep I turned up pissed to my ex's birthday party but I made up for that the next day by agreeing to get in a pedalo boat with her down at Regent's Park. Anyway, there I was regaling her and a friend about a picture I have of a Scooby Doo suiter at Disneyland looking rather pleased to be hugging an attractive looking lass. I was telling the story an old guy just stared at me. When I acknowledged him, he just continued staring and then walked off, saying nothing. How very rude!

To all those who spoke to me over the weekend and reassured me, I love you so much. Special big-ups go to Greyscar, Wolfie and Fioxy though, some of my closest furiends. Your support these last few weeks will not be forgotten. Thanks guys *hugs*

Date: 2008-02-26 07:14 am (UTC)I'm still not sure whether I'll be in Newcastle or not at the weekend. I knew it clashed with something, and that's the Midfurs meet. x.x

Date: 2008-02-26 10:13 am (UTC)I'm sorry to hear about the food situation hun, perhaps you should forgoe the pub grub and get a tasty Greggs Steak Bake instead? It's quicker to eat and you can take it on the walk with you :)
Aww shame you can't make it to Newcastle hun, it would have been great to see you. When are the Midfurs meets? I don't want to clash with them and indeed, I've never even been to one. An experience for another time I guess...
