Saturday night, we had a small gathering in Ambrosija, a Polish restaurant in Bradford that we all quite like. It was my idea to arrange it (although Stray did most of the arranging) as I initially thought I would finish my work shift at 4pm. Imagine my dismay when I realised that my shift ended at 7pm and I had a load of Dutch to edit too. Consequently we had to get a taxi into town and even then we didn't arrive until 8:45pm, with the party already in full swing. Draken in particular was already a little drunk while people were becoming hungry so we ordered food as soon as we arrived. The alcohol was flowing, with people trying a range of Polish liqueurs which were quite sickly sweet. There was a cherry one, a plum one and a cherry Bakewell one. All of them were quite nice but due to my atrociously weak stomach, I could only have a small sip rather than finish the whole shot. I stuck with beer, including a particularly nice honey effort from the Perla brewing company.

The food was exquisite and exceptionally cheap. I had pierogi ruskie (dumplings stuffed with cheese) to start with a chicken Kiev for main. The potato selection here isn't particularly great, the roast potatoes were more like boiled potatoes and a little hard but everything else was fantastic and I think everyone was impressed. I do like the mix of Polish and English radio in here while two Polish blokes at the bar seemed quite putback when I spoke Polish to the serving lady - they were nice guys though. It was a great evening, very relaxed and fun, and we were sad to see Taneli, Arc and Draken leave to catch their last bus. We finished our drinks just as Ambrosija was closing before we headed out with Stray and Luna to see if any of the craft beer places were open at the top end of town. Sadly the Record Store and the Sparrow were closing, so Jake's Bar was all that remained, and this was rammed, with people spilling out of the door and not particularly great people either. We thought it was best avoided and instead went to Wetherspoons, which in Bradford becomes a shitty disco, at least downstairs, on a weekend evening. There were still places to have a chat upstairs though and we sat in the bar until closing at 2am, which is something I haven't done for a while.

Sunday was a lazy day, but I did manage to squeeze in a gym session and some Japanese revision for my forthcoming listening test on Wednesday. I also finally got to do a full body shave, which was something of a relief as I'm starting to really dislike my body hair. In the evening, Arc and Taneli came round for another one of our irregular anime nights, where we charged our way through more episodes of the excellent Love Hina. I also cooked Mexican food for everyone and made my famous guacamole, which went down surprisingly well. I ate so much food though, but it was good to have such a chilled day, I rarely get days like this but I need to do them more often - I got a lot done but at my own pace, it was certainly very relaxed. Once Arc left, Taneli and I watched a Dara O'Briain DVD before I saw a disturbing show involving a man dressed as a pig getting a beer enema. At that moment, it was probably time for bed, after a rather wonderful weekend.

How'd the body shave go? :)

Went quite well, I had left it for too long but I have a new razor now which made light work of it.

As and when I can finally make it up thataway, I think that sounds like a prize venue. ^_^ Bit odd, really - there's a large Polish community in town, yet no sign of the cuisine in the restaurant offerings, just the usual endless generic pizza/kebab/chicken joints.

As for shaving - there's one place, part of a chain, down in the city, offering laser at quite attractive prices, though still not free with ten box tops. Full body for £299, or six sessions (given that's about the number of sessions needed to cover hairs at all phases of dormancy/development) for £1,490.

The Wetherspoons here split on the weekends - one seems to crank it up for the students, the other just leaves it be. I've rarely understood chains having almost neighboring branches, but this seems to work well. ^_^

It's a really good place but then Bradford is a really good city - a hidden rough gem perhaps, a place you need to know as the good venues are hard to find, but when you do know the venues it is pretty fantastic.

So for £1,490, it would stop hair growth completely. Tempting.

Wetherspoons have three different tiers of branches catering to different areas and different clientelle. I imagine that's what happens where you live.
